Police have yet to arrest 15 suspects who stormed Lakeside Mall in Benoni to rob a store on Wednesday afternoon, firing shots and hitting a worker.

Several eyewitnesses, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told News24 the suspects were armed with AK-47s and pistols.

"The suspects came here with three vehicles and they stole clothes, and I am not sure about the money. I quickly took cover after seeing them, it was like a movie," one eyewitness said.

According to the police, the suspects fired shots randomly, injuring a female worker at one of the stores.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said the suspects travelled in three vehicles.

"On their way out, [the] suspects started shooting randomly as they were running towards [their] getaway vehicles - three sedans."

The robbery stunned shoppers and employees alike.

Firstly, this goes to show how dangerous South Africa is becoming. This is not an isolated incident, this is actually the norm. People only read and know what the media is reporting. The rest of the daily incidents remains unreported and unknown. And, things are only getting worse by the day, irrelevant what police 'statistics' say.

Secondly, time the government realize gun control has failed. Allow everyone to arm themselves, without the need of paperwork and money. This is needed in the current warzone the country is gripped in.

Are we competing with merica now?

No competition. South Africa has been way worse the past 20 years. Just not a lot of these daily incidents are being reported by mainstream media. Some if it are reported in local weekly newspapers, but most goes unreported in total.

Arm up and fight when needed, naturally. Nobody is going to do it for you. There is virtually no police left. There is almost no army left. That leaves you and the criminals. What did you think?

So how many innocent civilians will become collateral damage with your idea to just allow a free for all Wild West gun policy?

And, with free reign and increasing crime, how many more will die because of criminals running around armed and civilians are sitting ducks?

Going Wild West with uncontrolled access to guns is not a good idea. You don't live in Somalia or Syria, you can't just start shooting in a shopping centre, especially not completely untrained people.

I know. We live in SA. Even worse than in Somalia or Syria. Hence the reason this is needed urgently.

What is your relevant experience to decide that allowing a free for all gun policy would be a good thing?

This lot will be taken out soon. Unprofessional, wildly firing and causing incidents, escalating responses. Either a syndicate, law enforcement or others will eliminate them.
