Above picture seems to be in 2011 and apparently similar happened in 2007 as well. Perhaps they are holding those symbols as a matter of principle? Like those people supporting use of confederate & old SA flags ?
For the most part, it's simply them not knowing any better. They were on the Axis side during the war and no amount of history lecturing will convince them to stop looking up to them. Here's a pic from last week.

Sometime I wonder at the role the news media plays at fueling crap. Regardless if the kids believed it to be a Roman salute or not, it's now a Nazi salute because the media said so (intentions and knowledge aside, all about feels). The SAJBD is on it. Regardless of what was the intentions, Roman or Nazi, already some made up their mind. At least the SAJBD will not do long term harm. But what is Azarrah Karrim's motive?

The more outrage crap like they post, the more hits they get, the more advertising R's. That's it. The newspapers are there to make money, the more viewers /readers they get, the more money they get.
