It's official, if you live outside of SA you can now vote!

I feel if you pay taxes in SA and you are here for more than 4 months (1/3) of the year you should be given voting rights.

That would be a great idea, if you pay your taxes then you can vote, but we all know the ANC wont allow that.

If a guy in jail can vote, surely people overseas may vote as well. Most of them are overseas because of the guy in jail.

Well said.

And what do you call VAT? It has a pretty direct effect on my wallet. ;)

Technically, VAT is not a direct tax, as it can be shifted to others.

Income tax can't be shifted to others, so is therefore a direct tax.

Yes, it is shifted to the consumer. :D
Everyone is a consumer of some sort.

IEC questions ability to stage elections overseas

The Independent Electoral Commission said it will have to look at its capacity to stage elections overseas once various court cases on the issue were concluded.

Six separate bids to ensure South Africans living abroad would have the right to vote are currently underway.

The IEC’s Pansy Tlakula would not say whether the commission was in a position to stage elections overseas on the scheduled date of 22 April.

“If we have to go out to register people overseas, if that’s what the court says then we will have to look at the issue of capacity, but if the outcome is please allow those who are already on the voters roll the opportunity top vote it’s a different matter altogether."

Let me think about this.... we are running out of time, election still needs to be proclaimed, ... but the IEC will wait until after the court cases before they ' look at their capacity to stage elections overseas ' ?

Aren't the court cases meant to be concluded by Friday? In which case it is not such a omg issue.

And tbf as it is the IEC that has asked for the ConCourt to hear all the cases together (according to what Patsy said on 702 on 11 Feb), it probably means they have started to think of ways of dealing with various judgements.
