The only sensible way for that to have happened, would be if the ground gave way beneath the car, because no sensible person would drive into that.

If water was flowing down the road and hole was filled with water then you would not see it.

Was hailing really badly now in Bellville. Couldn't see anything in front of me while driving to work.

Parked my motorcycle at work a minute before the heavy rain and hail started. Glad I wasn't caught in it.

I took these two photos 6 minutes apart.
The first at 0722: It suddenly got incredibly dark so dark that I actually saw the left street light turn on. The one on the right was still on at this stage.

This one was taken at 0728 (note the right light is powering off). This was a few seconds before all hell broke loose.

Big storm here in Pietermaritzburg also and the sky was violet even though it was dark.
