Is it really a shocker if you suspected that our education's pretty crap, all along?
 
Basic Ed does have a point. The WEF based their findings on a sample of 45 people. I read somewhere else that in Swaziland they had 87 responses.
I am not saying our educeshin is not cr*p, but too much is made of this study. Surely there is more objective data available?

I know that our education system has a lot of flaws but surely their findings are unreliable?
 
Well factor in crippling systems and red tape preventing local SMME's and foreign companies setting up shop.
Corruption equaling tenders for unskilled pals.
Unions and unrealistic wage demands
etc etc
 
And some people get upset about being portrayed as clowns. I'm guessing the cartoonist was't too good at drawing village idiots. Odd that, considering that we have way more idiots than villages.

Finding 45 poeple who are able to read was the challenge.
 
Distance between education and business

The thing being measured here is just how far away the standard of education is from the standard required by people who do actual work. In South Africa is is far far away. It is much further away from requirements than other countries. We need quality maths and science skills, and we have entrenched an education system that churns out turkeys.

I agree that a sample of 45 executives' opinions is just terrible. If there was a big sample of students writing the same math and science exams globally and we placed last THEN, then I would be more convinced.

This is just sensationalism.

I don't believe that a bit.

To get by in SA you just just need some good business subjects with a little maths and accounting at most.

South africa isn't interested in reseach or "smart ideas", only PROFITS

University's even say that the Matric Pass rates are a shocker. How can 30-40% be good enough to just pass Matric.
