The three-month extension of the State Capture Inquiry means that there is still an opportunity for former President Jacob Zuma to testify – but will the Constitutional Court give him the chance to avoid jail by doing so?
Yes, naturally it could end up the very same as prescribing in dealing with Zuma through the Zondo report. In the case this is the route the ConCourt has taken, then it is up to the conditions set by them.
Either Zuma attend the inquiry to give his testimony, conditionally, or it will simply be back to Stalingrad tactics. Imagine the ConCourt rules that Zuma should give testimony in Zondo's absence... but the best route would be to stipulate in an order to attend the summons as recalled by the Zondo Commission.
I don't know... say the system is helping him to avoid sentencing, then I assume the tactic is to deal with him through the report which will make it an ANC matter which will be a Constitutional blow and the public shouldn't accept it. The public interest and Constitution rests with the courts.
The best chance to see Zuma sentenced is still through the arms deal case, but to see the ConCourt act and rule Zuma to be in contempt with a recommended, by the commission, sentence then it will bankrupt Zuma's Stalingrad means. No more mucking around.
Anyway, my views, waiting on tomorrow.
