Jake to become Sharks coach

Cape Town - Jake White will return to South African rugby as Director of Coaching at the Sharks, a report on Die Burger's website indicates.

White, 50, shocked the Australian rugby fraternity when he quit his role as Brumbies coach on Wednesday.

The former Springbok coach requested a release from the last two years of his contract at the Brumbies, citing disappointment over missing out on the position as Wallabies coach to Ewen McKenzie.

Brendan Venter was recently appointed as Sharks Director of Coaching, but is likely to stay on as a consultant to the union, similar to the role he still performs with English club Saracens.

White joining the Sharks won't come as a big surprise to many though, as he has a good relationship with CEO John Smit, who was Springbok captain when White coached the Boks to the 2007 World Cup title.

White's resignation fuelled rumours that he may join Western Province after he was spotted at a training session at Newlands earlier this month.

However, WP were quick to deny the rumours on Wednesday.

WP Rugby CEO Rob Wagner told the Rugby365 website that White's resignation at the Brumbies was also news to them and that they haven't had any talks with White.

The Sharks have the best youth development programme in the country. The poaching happens to the sharks lower down the rungs far more than people who like to use the poaching argument are happy to admit...

It's good JK is not coming to the Stormers with his style of rugby.

Players aren't bought and sold on auction like cattle. They make conscious decisions to further their careers at whichever unions.

All the unions, and about 50% of French and English clubs, ultimately get their rugby players from somewhere in the Western Cape.

Oh and it's uncanny how alike sharks fans are. To say the least. They all have massive chips on their shoulders, they all yell that dynamite phrase while trying their best to pretend they're not being obnoxious and they can't stop exaggerating how fantastically awesome the Sharks youth development programme is.

Jake White must be dumb if he thought he was going to be the Aussie coach. After the Deans, they were NEVER going to pick another foreigner.
Sounds as if White is a spoilt brat anyway! Not very honourable either walking away from the Brumbies.

I should rather ask what you are smoking?

Also, Rugby Leagues are steadily outgrowing Rugby Unions in the Northern Hemisphere and this rugby are currently becoming more popular globally than Unions. SA do not play League Rugby.

DJ is in a manner correct, yes, their territory are achieving amazing results with the youth.

In truth though, many SA players who receive opportunities to play in Europe are registered with Boland (the largest club in the world), Maties comes into second place. Boland is not a part in WPRU.

Exactly as I said. The Western Cape is the breeding ground for the best rugby players in the world. Maori's don't count.

Also, you come into a thread discussing rugby UNION related matters and tell us all how rugby league are becoming so much cooler. You simply couldn't pull a more unrelated random fact out of your arse ?

This can possibly result in less players moving abroad (Northern Hemisphere), which actually involves certain rugby laws by code. In short, you need dual-code rugby players whom played at the senior level in both rugby league and rugby union. Yes, SA do have a league team, but they are horrible at best. In order to get SA players playing Europe they need demand.

Please show me the 50% in Western Cape players being contracted in England and France, also how the Boland and its sub-divisions (clubs) are made up in total by SA provinces.

I bet you, there isn’t so much Capies.

As far as I know Stellenbosch University plays its rugby in the WPRU league.

On topic, Jake White will be much better than Brendan Venter, if for no reason other than White will be based in SA.

Yes, Maties and Vics are both based in the WPRU Super A division at the current stage. Also note that the structure changed, there was no relegations this year, and instead they promoted 4 clubs in each division all the way down the ladder. Although Boland is a rugby union based within the Western Cape, their structure is not the same as WPRU as it branches out within the leagues, where WPRU have a ladder competition.

Interesting though, Maties and Vics can easily manipulate the log with their players… some internal controversy going on years...

I only hope that John Smit have enough in his budget to get operational teams next year... :erm:
