Most of us are pretty humble and really not in the mood to argue about it as we find it pointless and the arguments illogical. Most religious types go with the comfort zone thing "If there ain't, no harm done, if there is, I win" without realizing the harm done by segregating themselves from other parts of the population in one form or another.

In South Africa, the worst that happens to us is we are no longer invited to certain "friends" and family gatherings and when we do meet the most in depth conversations we would have revolve around the weather. Rest of the world?...

What, are you the spokesman now? Based on your own small dataset?

Well you just made a useless generalization so nothing much to comment on really.

Religion is defined by believing in or worshiping a God(s), its not defined by not believing in one.
I feel I have to point out that a religion can be defined as both believing in a specific god or gods and not believing in any other gods.... both are exactly the same thing..... you see a difference where there is none.

Agnostics believe God(s) don't exist.

Atheists do not believe God(s) exist.

A small difference but one you seem utterly, utterly incapable of understanding.

I think Spizz might have the best response to trying to argue anything with you.
Where is the difference though, you moved the "don't" to opposite ends but the meaning is the same?

I cannot do this.
This is something I cannot do.

...... same thing.

You "can" not simply change the definition of something to suit your agenda.

Exactly, it's even worse when someone changes the definition of definition...... also dictionary definitions are not actual laws nor are they actually all-encompassing.

It's called using ur brain not just parroting everything, you should try it it's great.

No that's not how its defined, you just made that up all in your head.

I find the "critical thinking" (lets call it what it is, mental gymnastics) required by the religious to try and change your world views to suit your belief systems disappointing. How an otherwise rational being is willing to go through this simply to try and prove to themselves that their religion is right. I suppose that with no other proof there is no other choice and I guess that is why it is called "blind faith".

You know, it's interesting how you don't see how you do the exact same thing you accuse me of.....

Once you have kids you will realise how religion is indoctrinated from a very early age. We are not religious ourselves as parents, but our 6 year old knows all the basics of the Christian religion. This comes from creche, pre-primary, school and friends mostly. Grandparents will enforce the beliefs every now and then. Sometimes we as parents do as well without noticing. Because they need to understand "why" certain behaviour is bad, why grandpa died and where he is now, or why he needs to be good. Often the religious framework gets in so early it is easiest to just build around that.

He often asks random questions about what he heard at school etc. We just quickly tell him and leave it. He can decide for himself when he is older. But it is uncanning the similarities between religion and things like the tooth fairy, Santa, Easter bunny etc in kids.
