My mom gave me a phone for Christmas, a 16GB iPhone 5s.
Lets start with the good.Touch id works very well.:D Wifi works and I can make phonecalls and send sms's.

The bad.The phone does not want to connect to the internet via 3G:crying:I will go to iStore tomorrow to sort it out.
I have managed to create a new homescreen by accident and can't seem to be able to get rid of it.

I am not writing this to attack Apple. When i got my first Android the first week were hell, but I do not find the iPhone more intuative than Android and clearly it does not always just work. I have downloaded the iphone 5s manual so hopefully that will be helpfull.

I am happy with how the phone fits in my shirt pocket and the screen is beautiful so if I can just get the thing to connect to the internet I think all will be well.

What do you mean "new" Home Screen? This being iOS you have no options for Home Screens, there is only one.

Your APN is more than likely incorrect depending on your ISP. If Vodacom it's probably set iphone.vodacom.za or lte.vodacom.za which you don't have access to. Just set it to "internet" for now and then call Vodacom tomorrow to add the APN to your SIM.

It does always just work...but if you are going to be narrow-minded and negative about it then it obviously never will.

Settings>general >reset> reset network settings. Should sort out your 3G issue.

Oh touch and hold any icon, they all start shaking. Touch, hold and move icons where you want them. The x in the top left hand corner is to delete the app. System apps cannot be deleted.

I have just managed to get my internet sorted. All I did was reboot the phone and now it works.:)I feel like hitting myself over the head:eek::eek::eek:. As far as the homescreens is concerned I started with two as there were too many icons for just one screen.I tried to move one icon from one screen to the next but ended up creating a third screen that now has only one icon on it.Still needs time to figure out how to move it back to the right screen. Now that I have a internet connection again all is right with the world.:D:D

Good advice. Just 1 thing. I didn't see the OP's post as narrow-minded or negative. He gave the pros and cons as he sees it.

You would feel the same being an Apple fan moving to Android. How you express it makes a difference. He wasn't negative or narrow-minded. He has to and will adjust. It an OS.

Yes I have figuered that much.It is just that I have a problem moving a wigling icon from one screen to the next.I have the same problem with Android but in Android I would just delete the icon from the screen where I dont want it and create a new one on the screen where I want it.I dont think you can do that in iOS.I think that when you delete a icon you also delete the app, oops.

I find it quite the opposite.

He has hardly used it for mere minutes and got stuck on very simple things and immediately declares it hard to use and not "just working" while every single failure points to user error.

That to me is a pre-defined view before genuinely giving something a chance.

And no I would not respond the same, thus the commentary.

Unless you've spent at least a week living with a phone (not just a few taps to set one up for someone else) you really can't pass any judgement on it.

I am very much platform agnostic.

No, you can't. Apple interface is fancy and attractive, very polished, but productivity is not a priority. When you get 10 screens populated, rearranging icons can make big mess on multiple screens. Android two-layer approach is much better.
