Joburg’s big plan to reduce traffic light downtime

ie just fix them ?

And install them properly ?

They use the same equipment in Europe, and those don't die when it rains !

All useless when these halfwits can't keep the power up and running. Funny how at one time it was unheard of to have traffic lights not working. It's called maintenance, you dunces. Something completely foreign to you.

At least they will now address the issue (replace the degraded cables), rather than just fix it over and over every second day, which is what the ANC morons did.

You could always just use a battery backup... oh wait, then traffic lights will be down all the time with criminals vandalizing the traffic lights for the batteries.

Yip, TIA.

And because of all the taxis and other incompetents running red lights many traffic lights get taken out by vehicles.

But it's ok because the Metro cops are sitting under trees eating KFC, and manning speed traps for which the fines will be cancelled because they insist on sending out illegal notices. In Joburg, anyway.

You mean like the BatteryBackups they've been installing in Sandton since last year? That silver box at the corner of Oxford and Corlett drive is not a new park bench. Two deep cycle batteries and a inverter - can run the traffic lights for 48 hours - according to the guy who was installing it.

Wonder how long it runs a TV for ?

Why not teach the techie to join the cable correctly?

You guys clearly did not read the article. So, here is a lazy TL;DR :

1. They will not join cables, as they have done in the past. This is the main cause for lights going out when it rains.
2. They will supply generators to areas affected with power outages, to alleviate traffic congestion.

You have to go one step further here in the South of Joburg and stop them from stealing the entire robots from the intersection first....

I read it. How did they handle the cables in the more distant past when the traffic lights didn't go out? Must be plenty of power outages because I see traffic lights out every single day, rain or shine.

The cables were new(er), and thus less joints and intact insulation and other factors...
