There are no grid fees in Durban. Just flat per unit rate.
I've been researching that, right now they are not really worth it for home + still quite costly. We need wind turbines to take off, so we can generate power at night and during rain...
Apparently they're bolted to large concrete foundation slabs, to prevent them from suddenly 'taking off'...Why haven’t they taken off yet?
Yeah that's what I mean. It's where solar used to be years ago, before load shedding. Hopefully all this registration nonsense is the push it needs for demand to increase and prices to come down. To a large extent it would negate the need for a generator, you might just need a very small one...I've been researching that, right now they are not really worth it for home + still quite costly.
You'd still need sufficient wind, which turns out a lot of home installs can't do, perhaps a two storey house might be able to get away with wind turbines on their roof.Yeah that's what I mean. In Jhb we get decent wind from August until May. It's mainly June and July, but in those months we get decent sun, just need to increase panels to cater for the shorter days. You'd still need sufficient wind, which turns out a lot of home installs can't do, perhaps a two storey house might be able to get away with wind turbines on their roof.
But normal houses you'd have to mount it on a large pole, away from trees and such that could cause it to degrade.
Also have spinny meter that turns backwards.Lucky SOB but then you do have to deal with living in Dirtbin so there's that.
Still quite pricey for what you get and what you may generateIn Jhb we get decent wind from August until May. It's mainly June and July, but in those months we get decent sun, just need to increase panels to cater for the shorter days.
Gennie would just be needed for very rare use cases, because you've just removed rain and night from the equation. Rain actually works to your advantage now...
You never get your money back. How much is a turbine assuming you can get past the bylaws etc in installing one?I've been researching that, right now they are not really worth it for home + still quite costly.
Look post aboveYou never get your money back. How much is a turbine assuming you can get past the bylaws etc in installing one?
They just don’t work for residential applications.Yeah that's what I mean. It's where solar used to be years ago, before load shedding. And will prob only do 100W on a good day.Still quite pricey for what you get and what you may generate

There are some newer ones that apparently can produce more power with less wind look like a cone. Plus with a generator you can power high draw items on it most of the times while charging the batteries and you'll only need the generator a few times a year.
Yeah that's what I said, price is the issue. It's where panels were before LS.Still quite pricey for what you get and what you may generate

You need to add the controller as wellYeah that's what I said, price is the issue. It's where panels were before LS.
At the same time that price seems excessive for the output. You can get better for less...

Too many moving parts. We need wind turbines to take off, so we can generate power at night and during rain...
