Johannesburg and Pretoria facing new "load-shedding" threat

Two of South Africa's largest municipalities have recently been threatened with power cutoffs by Eskom for failing to pay billions of rand in electricity bills.

The developments have caused great uncertainty among millions of residents and businesses, who are concerned about what could effectively be a return to load-shedding at a municipal level.

Bottom line is that the municipalities do not pay and MUST be cut off completely, we have enough problem without an inept and incompetent government being added to the list, not interested in the stories, the municipalities CHOOSE not to pay, they must be cut off until their own accounts are current.

They shouldn't be cut off.. That is unfair to the people who are paying every month.

What should happen is that the courts should just attach and hand over parts of their distribution networks to Eskom as a creditor. They can start with all the profitable suburbs, and leave the townships for the municipality.

It would bankrupt the municipalities, but that is already happening lol.

Well I've had no electricity since 9pm Wednesday.

Also I am sure this would be against the law and the perpetrators, being the municipality and the ones in power, should be hit and targeted.

All good, as long as you don't call it loadshedding

Sadly it is not against the law. There are areas that have been out for days

What should happen is …
…whatever political party is in charge of the municipality is banned from standing in municipal elections again.
