Joburg announces plan to overhaul load-shedding, including excluding some businesses from power cuts

Instead of all these **** for brains ideas, can we just fix the actual root cause instead - like corruption, theft, AA, etc? Oh those are core to the anc manifesto and gwede vetvok needs to eat meal #28 for the day? Sure, we eagerly await the next genius idea then

So basically they are screwing some of us even more so others can feel relief. So much for equality. The days where anyone can believe 'we are all in this together' are long gone - only someone living under a rock believes this.

Actual plans should've been to restore Kelvin, sorting out the gas plants they were looking at, or other IPPS. But nope let's reshuffle things, seems the current "government" took the DA proposals and said how can we frak these up?
That lot just have to look at something and it's FUBAR.

They most probably got some interest in them businesses that they want to keep operating. A percentage cut don't come from nothing.
This is probable. Money under the table to exempt some who think they are more important than the rest of us. It's what happens when a country is run by terrorists.

This is such a terrible idea, 2 hours slots with 2 hour breaks in-between(+30 mins for restoration)
What are we supposed to do with <2 hours of power before the next slot...

and 6 times +30mins for restoration...
How the hell are the substations supposed to survive this?
They won't. Then we will ALL be back in the bush where they want us.

Yeah the only overhaul these cnuts did was ****ing up our area even more after yesterday's so called maintenance. Now we trip every time and not just one in a while

Might have been better to implement fixed 6 hour load shedding slots, then business can plan to cut down into a 4 day work week.

They should rather focus on fixing the infrastructure that's been allowed to rot.
More and more frequently, loadshedding is followed by an infrastructure outage — which can only be tested when power is up.

Given the number of solar installers in business, there must be a sizeable base of units installed, If the City would feed-in these, it could help alleviate the problem. These units are already installed so there is minimal lead time and Eskom and City Power (both bankrupt) wont have to finance them. It's also, like, a green solutin

Maybe we misunderstand a bit.
Main concern in the article's facts is about stage 8, but we've never been there, so are we sure what's better?

Sure, on and off 6 times a day is madness, and we were very happy when we changed a while back from too many 2 hour shifts to some 4 hour ones instead. But stage 8 is only said possible for mid-winter, and looking at my spreadsheet the current stage 8 calls for at least 3 and sometimes 4 x 4 hour shifts a day!!

Personally I would prefer stage 6 to have some 4 hour shifts rather than too many 2 hour ones like we had before, but they claim the amount of shedding will drop with this new system, so we need to see the actual plan first.

The last time we gave anyone the benefit of the doubt, we ended up with Ramaphosa and where we stand now... just saying... lol...

In any event, the plan, even if it's only at stage 8 to go on and off every 2 hours, is ****ing stupid for the reason I outlined above :(

The stupid part is that we have to wait up to thirty minutes for the power to come back after load-shedding so 2x2 hours is worse than 1x4 hours. 2x2 can end up equalling 5.
Exactly, our power has now tripped three times since 8am this morning. With this new schedule will basically never have power again.

The only way emergency services/business will have more power is if residents have less. Unless someone in the ANC/EFF/PA coalition suddenly pulled a power station out of their butt.

Same here.
No power from 8AM to 12:30PM last night. Some of the areas around us have been off for 5 days.
The grid only works in our area now between midnight and early morning hours.
This change would mean the end of power for our area, we're already basically there.

So currently in Stage 6, we get 2x4h with a 4 hour break and 1x2h. Now we will get 5x2h which is 10 hours, with 14 hours in-between to recharge. They are not saying there will always be only 2 hours between loadshedding. So calm down.

Yep, but really could have been worse.

Actually agree - having given more thought to it since posting, bottom line for me is IF City Power is prepared to fix and maintain enough, else I'll rather put up with another 5 or 10% shedding or whatever it is and have infrastructure for my area last a while longer.

And I haven't forgotten how we all hated just-2-hour shifts before.
But let's face it, we don't actually have a choice..

I have 3 hour slots for stage 5, this must be the new schedule so 1 hour less hopefully

Remember before February 2021 we had 4 hour shifts, but it was not badly spaced, except for stage 4 where we could get 2 4 hour sessions 12 hours apart.
