The Hawks and the labour department this week uncovered an illegally-run Chinese factory in Johannesburg which not only employed children and illegal immigrants, but also subjected them to extremely cheap and forced labour.

In a statement posted on the government’s website, the labour department’s chief inspector in Gauteng, Adv Michael Msiza said his inspectors who were there during the bust “expressed shock and disgust” as this was “the most grim site they have ever come across”.

Meanwhile... online I saw people blatantly advertising positions requiring a degree, and the pay being R3000/month.
I pay my domestic more than that.
The arrogant arseholes in SA continue as they always have..

Police were first alerted to the illegal operation in August when they were informed that Chinese nationals were trafficking Malawian nationals for this business.
So that tells me two things: the police were alerted more than once and did absolutely nothing since August until now.

My guess would be that the Chinese slave driver was bribing police to look the other way, maybe he skipped a payoff or didn't pay enough. What other explanation could there possibly be for the police sitting on tip off information for about 3 months?

Could have been monitoring 'traffic', trying to see where it leads/comes from, who else is involved and get more than just the owner? /shrug

Until proven otherwise, I will have to go with the simpler explanation that the police were being bribed, I would add lazy but that would be redundant.

Or the Police were doing thorough investigations before springing into action, a tip off still needs sound evidence to back it up, you don't just go in guns blazing on a tip-off, otherwise you'll arrest people and they'll be out on Monday.

What would you consider as proof that the police were not being bribed?

I agree. If police receive a complaint of "Rape about to take place", they should first investigate for a few weeks and then decided to act. After all you don't want to arrest the wrong people LOL That explains a few things...

I don't recall them endorsing human trafficking, forced detention & slavery...

They paid them, hence it was not slavery. This is the natural conclusion of no labour laws and minimum wage though. Exploitaion.
