I agree. If police receive a complaint of "Rape about to take place", they should first investigate for a few weeks and then decided to act. After all you don't want to arrest the wrong people LOL That explains a few things...

Meanwhile... online I saw people blatantly advertising positions requiring a degree, and the pay being R3000/month.
I pay my domestic more than that.
The arrogant arseholes in SA continue as they always have..
And the way things are, some people are desperate amd will apply for that position.

Or the Police were doing thorough investigations before springing into action, a tip off still needs sound evidence to back it up, you don't just go in guns blazing on a tip-off, otherwise you'll arrest people and they'll be out on Monday.
If the police really wanted to see what was going on there, there are several different laws that would have facilitated obtaining a search warrant, for a start tip offs about illegal immigrants and forced labour are enough.

A minimum of 3 months and multiple tip offs before the police take any action points to police being bribed.

What would you consider as proof that the police were not being bribed?
Definitive action taken to shut down other sweatshops in the same area, that cannot be the only occurrence of slave labour.

Looks like you are very experienced in police work and how things should be done.

This logic is fantastic, Ill report someone to the police with the minimum evidence without any proper proof, they should not investigate at all but rather arrest them immediately and then investigate the claims while they sit in jail and wait, is that what you rather want?

You dont prove that someone isnt being bribed. You prove that they are being bribed. The burden of proof is on the accuser.

So, what proof do you have that they where being bribed ?

You might want to learn what "proof" is before you answer. :)

for me, I have no problem for an employer to offer R3000/month. as a job seeker, you have the right to reject.

however, I have a problem with forced and child labour.

Those workers had the right to leave at any time. It was only forced because the alternative was unemployment and homelessness

“[On] request to go on leave, they are informed to never come back. Employees lived on the premises in uninhabitable conditions. The employer failed to provide employees with information concerning remuneration and they do not have contracts,” the department added.
“Information obtained by the department was that the migrant workers were locked in a factory day and night. When the Malawian citizens wanted to buy [from the shops], they were expected to write down what they want on a piece of paper for their bosses to buy it for them,” the department added.

Sounds pretty forced to me.

I think Apartheid was bad but the one really bad crime was the Exploitation of labour, which in fact was carried out with all races. With the end of Apartheid you would think this is not practiced as much now. But you will find the biggest culprits these days are so called BBBE Companies.
