Clearly you didnt grow up in a township - the kak about township electricity.

It was for the bloody street lights to watch the "gevaar" and yes some houses had electricity for lights but sure as hell only a select few had plugs.

So, which was it?

Will the Joburg mayor be cooking with gas then? Do government officials cook with gas? Ask not of your country what you are not prepared to do yourself.
Most people who are comfortable in the kitchen prefer gas, so I’m not really sure what sort of sacrifice you’re hoping for?

Because you are also a blacksmith who has 20 years experience making cast iron pots and has worked in over 20 countries perfecting your art?

No. Because I have a cast iron cooking pot for making stews and do plenty of cooking on my stove, which is gas.

No, he is not. But getting a proper gas installation done for cooking is expensive. Any shortcuts and you have a deadly setup. Very few people can afford a professional installation. Many do not understand the dangers of making use of gas. People die today in holiday resorts due to gas leakages. People die of gas explosions. Under these circumstances, electricity is still the better solution.
Can you provide some links to these incidents?

He was in a hurry and hungry from all the hard work of being a finance Minister, give the guy a break.
We forget that most of the times fabulous color seen in YT videos comes from egg yellow coloring or artificially colored chilli powder or likewise.

Of course, one can have myriad of colorful vegetables cooked just right to retain color (instead of looking super boiled & eew) to go close at times but in SA, for most people, potato is enough as a vegetable. :)

Available, easy, safe, portable & cheap.

Also, I put in a gas hob against loadshedding 2 years ago & I'm still on the same 9kg gas bottle since Feb, granted it's just me & I still use electricity for oven, kettle, instant pot etc but cooking on gas is way cheaper than Eskom.
3 of those canisters PER MONTH?? Hahaha...jirre, what are you going to cook with the other 20 days of the month? Those are luxury items when camping...or for emergencies.
Not sustainable by people living on the breadline.
