Just stinks of more BEE BS - screw the previously and currently disadvantaged, we'll just spin them another yarn when we need their vote.

Joburg most expensive mansion sold to a wife of Telkom exec

A controversial Johannesburg mansion that is reminiscent of the Union Buildings has been sold for a record-breaking R65-million - the most expensive residential property ever sold in Gauteng and possibly in the country.

The palatial multi-columned home, described by auctioneers as South Africa's "most opulent and high-profile mansion", is tucked in the elite Sandhurst Estate and is constructed entirely of sandstone.

The hilltop mansion boasts a hairdressing salon, seven en-suite bedrooms, a multi-million rand home automation system, tennis court, koi ponds, saunas, steam rooms, a games area, a movie theatre and terraced gardens overlooking Sandton's skyline.

Several bidders including controversial businessman Douw Steyn - who reportedly put in a bid of R60-million - packed Friday's auction at Sandton's upmarket Hilton Hotel.
So, do think the owners emigrating?

How is this BEE BS - to whom did the house belong before? Power has changed hands therefore the wealth has chenged hands. Not all black people with a job are incompetent BEE appointees - not even many are!

The house was previously owned (and built) by a Rwandan cellphone tycoon, Miko Rwayitare, who died a while back. When he failed to pay for everything, the architect Greg Pietersen, sued and got the entire house for around R400K (yes, under half a million!). He's made a tidy profit on this!!

So black people are not allowed to be wealthy and should donate their money to others previously disadvantaged? But if Douw Steyn had got the house it would have been OK?

That house has been in the news and in Noseweek - Greg Pietersen pulled some real slimy tricks to buy it for a song. It would be better if he emigrated to jail, but it is a civil matter I think sadly.

Douw Steyn made his fortune himself, he didnt get a handout and didnt get some position because of his colour, he got it from hard work. That my friend is the differece between him and BEE.

So you would answer in the affirmative to my question posed above, repeated for you here:

"So black people are not allowed to be wealthy and should donate their money to others previously disadvantaged? "

Besides Douw Steyn is hardly a paragon of virtue.

Where did I say that? Please kindly put words in your own mouth.
What I am saying is that Douw Steyn made HIS OWN money. Simple as that. He didnt require any stupid racist BEE law to help him get a top position with no hard work to get it.
I dont care for his moral compass as that is not the issue.
You brought up his name.

I brought his name up only in the context of my question, so I could read your response only as an answer thereto.

Is it therefore OK to make your "own" money regardless of any immoral means you might employ to do so? ( Not that I am necessarily accusing Mr Steyn of doing so: I am asking because of your lack of concern for any "moral compass" )

Well If you are going to bring up people's names in the context of your questions, expect people here to comment on your statements ;)

I dont care what he does in his spare time, I am not his father. ;)
And by the way who said he was making money in an immoral way? I am talking about his alleged taking of drugs and using prostitutes as covered in Noseweek. Maybe go and pick up a copy.

Well once again I was not talking about Mr Steyn's business ethic. You brought it up. Again ;)

Forgetting Mr Steyn, is it OK to make your "own" money regardless of any immoral means you might employ to do so?

So the wealth just changes hands? - therein lies the problem, it just changes hands without it being earned.

Wouldn't it be good to have no Black Enrichment Enterprise (BEE)?

As a white male, Steyn had opportunities that black people did not have and he cashed in on it. No doubt he must be shrewd, but he had an unfair disadvantage.

Now that black people have the same (some may say unfair) advantange, people cannot deal with and become bitchy.
So it's all hunky dori to swap one unfair system for another, and say F'it to reconciliation.
The "unfair" advantage these days is more about corruption, embezzlement, arms deals, raping of the justice system, an attitude of entitlement, and incompetence in high places.

Wouldn't if be nice if the Black Enrichment Enterprise (BEE) spent just a little on the upliftment of the previous and currently disadvantaged people.
