JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg residents are being warned of mammoth water cuts this weekend.

Rand Water will cut supply to large parts of western and northern Johannesburg from 1pm on Saturday afternoon.

This to replace a valve and bypass valve.

Areas that will be affected include Coronationville, Westdene, Newlands, Westbury, Melville, Auckland Park, Greenside, and Albertville.

The shutdown is expected to last around 30 hours, coming to an end on Sunday evening.

Johannesburg Water is urging residents to prepare for the shutoff.

Hey you guys as well, Awesome!

But Rand water are clearly rubbish, 30 hours? Umgeni water are doing their repairs on a valve in 19 hours, and not even doing a full shut down, just slowing supply to 50%.

We had around 10 hours this past weekend when a pipe sprung a leak. Luckily I noticed the drop and got a last bucket from the taps and filled a kettle, so we could at least wash hands and drink coffee.

Weltevredenpark area? Had to help a friend of mine out there on Sunday. Pressure relief valves are being stolen and causing pipes to burst. While driving there I saw three different burst pipes flowing into the streets. Her house is right next to the valves and the main feed into the house burst, second time now in a few weeks. Fun times.

Dis fokol. We get shut off every day from 6 to 6. Incompetent corrupt RLM.

*Water Interruption Update Weltevredenpark/ Constantia Kloof*

8 April 2021

Johannesburg Water Regional Manager, Mr Kobus Beukus, confirms that pressure release valves have been stolen from the Chambers corner JG Strydom and Cornelius Streets. These copper components are sold as scrap.

The increased pressure in the system has caused major pipe bursts in several streets.

The water supply to these areas has been shut off pending a repair.

The slow response can be ascribed to the Entity working at 50% staff capacity due to union pressure; and the service provider of specialised vehicles being on strike.

Water tankers will be placed throughout the affected area and the locations communicated.

I understand that repairs might happen throughout the night.
