The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has not been issuing fines for speeding infringements caught on any of its fixed or manually-operated cameras for almost a year.

This admission came from the JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla in an interview with eNCA.

Speed traps are never about safety. Warning someone they will be fined if they don't slow down - is for safety. but hiding in a bush waiting to catch someone is about making money.

How is speed cameras going to make people drive safely?
They will just slow down before the camera then continue on as per usual.

If people can't drive, speed cameras are not going to teach them how.
