Well on the bright side if half of the cops are killed it means that at least half of those killed were criminals in one way or another :pQUOTE]

That math’s doesn’t apply to this sort of situation as all the corrupt cops will be off sick or hiding. The officers involved will tend to be your motivated honest good cops

Apparently some reservists are striking too saying they being used as cheap labor and want to be accepted into the permanent force. Just heard on E news however I'm not entirely clear on the issue. Confusing how it was described.

Ridiculous. So they want to get payed a salary, not go through the 4 cycle phases of training, and receive the same privileges?!

I think these people have missed the entire idea behind the reservists. So much for assisting the police

The training might be different but the risks at the sharp end are identical, as are the working hours and conditions. I am not sure where I stand on whether reservists should get paid or not, but it most certainly costs reservists to do their 'duty'.

The training 'IS' different, 6 months x 4 phases before officially being on the force. Its like that for a reason, to integrate and prepare police for anything. Its risky to expect reservists to do what police do which is why they are limited in their duties. I totally disagree with you wrt the working hours and conditions. They aren't going to be allowed to work two separate official jobs. I'd think a benefits program would be an idea, perhaps going onto Polmed (lower plan) would be a start

But then again, I know what I am talking about.

But then again I've been on Polsmed's (higher plan) for years and why would I want that privilege extended to people who "expect" .. hell it may bring down the quality of service for us.

Seems I too, know what I'm talking about :)

AFAIK reservists will receive medical cover if injured while on duty. And they don't have to pay any contributions to the medical aid. And then again, they aren't ripping the medical aid off either like quite a few of the members are.

Gets kinda scary when we compare how much we know doesn't it ;)

I'm not a reservist so I wouldn't know .. I've yet to meet a single reservist irl that I can actually stand. They seem to forget the word "volunteer" and I guess that just.. 'grates' me a little. So as long as they don't get in my way they'll be okay ;)

Really? Metrolpolitan's being ripped off by actual police officers? Gosh, how dare they receive dental or counseling .. I mean who needs that  You're not a detective are you ? ... because if you have actual proof I'd love to hear it lmao

Maybe you should meet R/SGT? He seems a pretty stand up guy.

I gave up being a reservist after it got too dangerous. Weapons we were drawing had been tampered with (firing pins removed) and we were denied radios.

And sorry - I can't provide you with actual proof. You know that'll never happen. So far I think the cases have resulted in people leaving the force rather than full-on court cases. Not too sure what happened to the doctors involved in the scams. But it'll remain hearsay.

Personal views on whether members should receive dental and counselling - of course they should. But just a little thought - reservists don't get state cover for the counselling, they're only covered for the broken body sort of things. The rest is for their own account.

I'm not sure what reservists you've come across. Maybe you do have the busy body help out in the charge office sort. And while I may have done that, I've patrolled, pulled flying squad duty, been on raids, followed up on statements, done road blocks, sentry duty, feeding prisoners, arrested people for murder, arrested a guy in the middle of Alex for car theft (that was stupid), tackled a guy in Commisioner Street armed with an 8" knife, went to the cricket at the Wanderers (okay that was mostly fun), patrolled schools, had rocks thrown at me, went to more than enough necklacings, and was in court enough times to testify and that was during office hours. And that was less than most of my fellow reservists did.

does this mean we can speed on freeways since the law enforcers are to pre-occupied?

Yes lets not derail this thread with our banter.. this is the 'I dislike the JMPD thread' lol

Albereth a large percentage of the permanent force grate me and I trust practically nobody. That's just the way I am :) but everyone has an opinion and point of view. Metropolitan is really jacked and nobody is ripping it off. I know what you referring too and that occurred a lot with the previous medical aid co MX Health used by SAPS about 4 yrs ago. Not any more! I still think the idea of increased benefits is fair but one is dealing with a government department and they don't care. They don't give a $hit so never mind equipment, money for reservists is another story. I have mixed views on it but I don't make the rules :)

Just to clear the air

Reservists do recieve a small stippend when called up for certain duties, although its actually to much of a hassel to wade through all the paperwork required to get.

As for medical aid, we are fully covered while on duty, I know this for a fact as I managed to dislocate my shoulder while on duty a few years ago (Stupid wet tile + bullet proof and plates = busted shoulder). Polmed covered everything including physio.

Personally I dont think reservist should get paid, volunteers tend to be more dedicated than people who are paid.
