Johannesburg's billing problems no crisis: Mayor Amos Masondo

No crisis?

:erm:

Ja right, tell that to the people who got inflated bills and got told to pay up or else.

It would be deliciously ironic if Mr Mayor get slapped with a very fat bill and get told to pay up or else... :D

Exactly. On 702 there were people that got bills of R50 000 and higher. I cant even imagine receiving such a bill and then being told that you have to pay it or else they cut you off.

Flippen idiot. Besides...this has been going on for YEARS! How long can it take to sort a billing system out? Do they use the same Software company as MTN perhaps? hehe

How do they know they're owed 10 billion rand if they can't bill reliable numbers.

This comes as no surprise at all. It's incompetent project management, driven by political wills.

And, just as with other metro's in SA, you can bet that before this f*** *p there was a perfectly acceptable system in place that required minor modification to cater for the actual needs.

They opted for a SAP installation...

City of Cape Town (who successfully installed SAP ISU) offered them expertise and to share experiences, but it was turned down by the Jozi idiots.

Even though my billing problem isn't as big as some, I still received double charges for October, for who knows what reason. They also found it suitable to slap a "Sundry Charge" on my rates bill for both October and January, just because they want to. Phoning or email them is less than useless - you never get through to talk to anyone and they don't reply to emails. I've mentioned in all my emails that I refuse to pay the double charge or October, as well as these new "Sundry Charges".

/blood boils

This is because, they hire 100 reliable & genuinely intelligent developers from India @ $1 an hour to build a system for cheap, but don't realize that specialists (from ZA) are needed who understand the industry. An everyday developer who knows nothing about billing cannot build a reliable billing system. it's bound to end up being a patchy system.

On a side note, MTN & VDC use the same billing system, it's not who you are, it's how you run it.

Gladiator I think it's more a management problem - happens when you allow a boy to do a man's work.

The city's head of finance Parks Tau said implementation of the IT project had been completed and that problems with it were "interface-related".

what do you mean?

oh, you probably meant you can't klap them through the monitor when they're doing stupid things on the computer, is that it?
