John Steenhuisen is a competent but uninspiring choice as DA leader

He probably will not get back the lost VF+ votes. The best that he can do is potentially get some of the black moderate middle class to support the party as well as win back some of the votes which the DA lost to the ANC and Good during the past election.

However, things could go wrong if CR makes him look very weak which I have a feeling is a very realistic outcome.

Uninspiring? He is probably the only one I would vote for. He is brilliant in parliament

By that logic, MM was also brilliant in parliament when Zuma was President. Time will tell what happens, maybe I'm wrong but remember that people also predicted big things when MM was elected in 2015.

No, MM was eloquent to a degree when in Parliament, but not brilliant.

If it was based purely on Parliamentary speeches I would say John Steenhuisen is considerably more educated than MM... he has a great grasp of the English language

I find him pretty good in parliament as a chief whip. I do however know that everyone who has ever met him outside of parliament thinks that he is a dckhead. So good leadership material he is not.

Mmusi was trying to be Obama and failing dismally at it.

Steenhuisen on the other hand has produced some epic speeches...

Of course he is, his crime is being articulate and intelligent on the continent where politicians are expected to be corrupt and incompetent as long as they can jive on stage.

Wow, met him as well in real life and you hit the nail on the head with that one.

I don't mind a d*ckhead. At least you know exactly what you're getting.

The reason why politics is so f'ed up is because of the opposite - too many people pleasers trying to win a popularity contest, who you have no idea what they actually stand for...

Having a good grasp of the English language does not automatically make you more educated.

Having an education should not matter (some of the biggest dick-heads like Mugabe were highly-educated) but it was actually a DA blunder which resulted in the EFF hammering him about his lack of post-matric qualification after their caucus called for chief-whips to have degrees.

That's not the point I was making

Might actually be of more benefit to them to elect Madikizela (who according to reports) is also up for candidacy especially if they want to retain the Western Cape.

He is only a temporary leader though. I believe an election for a permanent leader will take place early 2020.

I see the media on their racist wagon again.

After what they've been through, the DA need stability. Pretty sure his position is temporary as well, so just navigate them through the sh*tstorm.
