John Steenhuisen wins DA interim leader position
John Steenhuisen will now serve as the party’s leader, and Ivan Meyer the interim federal chairperson, until 2020.
Do you know how many votes he got over Gana? For some strange reason that information is nowhere to be found, or is there some DA principles that numbers should not be announced? Not sure if this guy is really as strong as his conservative praise-singers are saying. Remember that people said the same about MM circa 2015, it was not like MM's election was up for debate, he won in a landslide.
DA leadership: The party under Steenhuisen must now face up to race, redress and electoral mishaps
Newly elected DA interim leader John Steenhuisen, who’s made no bones about the interim leader’s post being a pit stop before contesting the leadership position in early 2020, has five months to persuade the DA not only how to deal with race and redress, but also how to reposition itself away from “banging [on] about how bad things are under the ANC” and in establishing the party in communities to regain trust and electoral support.
His vision? “No more blue jelly in the middle”.
It’s ambitious. But Steenhuisen, it has been reliably learnt, received 75% of the vote at Sunday’s DA Federal Council, its highest decision-making structure between national congresses. And that, at least for now, has smoothed the road to the April 2020 policy conference, followed by the national elective DA congress in May 2020.
Steenhuisen won against Gauteng MPL Makashule Gana, who publicly congratulated him:
“We now go back to the branches. The journey continues,” read Gana’s congratulatory tweet in what counts as good form in the DA.
75%? that's a proper beating.![]()
ANALYSIS: DA leadership: The party under Steenhuisen must now face up to race, redress and electoral mishaps
DA parliamentary leader John Steenhuisen’s election as DA interim leader is raising questions about black leadership, race and redress. And while Steenhuisen didn’t mince his words — ‘Race matters’ — only time will tell if he’s got backing among the DA’s liberal factions.www.dailymaverick.co.za
Might vote for them again now, let's wait and see what happens

Is there anyone who has access beyond this paywall
Schweizer: DA - fout was nie sy Skuld
APPARENTLY .../
Liza Albrecht, a former editor of Rapport and currenty senior comms. official of the DA confirmed that Boughey and Moakes instigated and orchestrated the whole Schweizer 'performance'. Mphithi acted on their instructions
I can find no other reference to this incident / reporting any where else on the InterWebz
INNUENDO !MM did say when he left that people from within the party leaked images of his house which put the safety of his wife and kids in danger. Honestly if they did something like that, its hard to fault him for thrashing the party.
I liked Mmusi until his started with his stupid identity politics.Looks like Steenhuisen won with around 75% of the vote which is a beating. MM won with around 90% in 2015 if I'm not mistaken.
Not saying that MM was perfect but many of his fiercest critics now were his biggest praise-singers in 2015 and they know it!!!
