Join our power plan: Energy minister

Minister of Energy Tina Joemat-Pettersson said on Thursday her department wants to see more South Africans capitalising on the Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme in a bid to help the country overcome energy shortages.

Just like you mauled our fish stocks, you are going to maul our power.
TJP, how about you get off your arse and put a stop to Eskom buying diesel and coal, through BEE intermediaries, at sometimes 3 times the market related price?

Fsck that,

Make it worth the residents and small businesses while and you will see Solar etc usage going through the roof.

And they obviously couldn't think of such an initiative BEFORE we actually ran out of capacity?

Agreed. Net-metering would really up the ante. I doubt they will though, as it will erode their market... and profits.

Pathetic
Next they'll anounce a working group to study the legal implications of announcing a plan to investigate the feasibility of removing the 50% +1 requirement for Coal Suppliers.

FFS. By now we should have had the country on 2 time zones (Not that difficult - I just had to handle my clients in Windhoek switching to Winter Time. It would take 2 weeks to sort out.)
The removal of the 50% requirement to comply with the Dept of Labour's 26%.
Regulated stage 3 load shedding from January to allow for maintenance.
A completed investigation into the current supply contracts.
As well as some direct action by the Security Cluster to sort out the labour action at Medupi. Charges of Sedition comes to mind.

Would love to put equity into a REIPP. Anyone know of a REIPP that is looking to raise equity?

Nope they've already got it (and have to have a certain number of the right 'shareholders' -- i.e. BEEE).

This is one industry where if you knock and the door and say "want some money" they will turn around and say -- no thanks, got enough already :)

IPP's are the way to go.

Privatise the electricity and give each independant power producer enough competition to keep prices down.
