Joining a gym for 6 months every year, possible?

I keep fit by jogging 8km 3 times a week on average around where I reside either in the morning before I go to work or in the evening after coming back from work. I sometimes jog on Saturday mornings too. The problem is I can only jog during summer, spring and autumn seasons. Whenever I jog in the morning during winter I end up having a very sore throat and end up feeling unwell. I tried using a variety of clothing wear to cover my nose and mouth whenever I jog but it doesn't help. So I decided a long time ago never to jog during winter seasons, unless it's during the day.

So what I thought of doing is to go to the gym during winter, maybe for 3 months to 6 months. Is it possible to sign a 3 months or 6 months contract at any gym?

You can pay monthly. The salespeople will tell you that it works out far more expensive than a contract, but their contracts are usually rip-offs unless you gym consistently a few times a week...

Paying per month might be more expensive in comparison to having a contract, but it's something I will definitely consider.

There is a gym towards the north of Pretoria who does different contract lengths.
IIRC i paid R1500 once off last year for a 6 month contract.

Place is called Shape Up, and they are situated behind the Wonderboom Junction in Lavender Rd.
I think they have a website as well.

Or come to think about it, if all you're interested in is running, you could just buy yourself a treadmill...

yeah but cost of that compared to 6 months in gym is crazy

it might be a good investment in the long run but not for a short period

I live in Centurion, but will definitely check that gym out. Thanks!

I don't have enough space in my flat for a treadmilll. Mostly I will run yes, but I plan to do a bit of weight lifting as well.

I went to Planet Fitness in Centurion today and I was told that I would have to pay R695 per month if I sign month to month contract. The consultant also told me that if I go to Dischem or Pick n Pay and ask for a Planet Fitness voucher then I will only pay about R200 for 2 months. I don't know if that's true or not, if it is it's a deal I will take.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that there's an indoor running track in the gym. This is good because treadmills hurt the knees and most gyms don't have an indoor running track. So paying R695 a month for about 4 months seems like a very good idea.
