Morning folks,

Anyone here use Jolicloud 1.1? It seems that I can't access any wireless networks on my Acer Aspire 3680. It does pick up a WLAN interface in the network manager but I can't pick up any networks. Tried all the basic stuff such as the switch and the BIOS. Where can I download this driver?

First of you need to give us more details on your hardware:
# lspci

That should tell us what driver we should be hunting for.

Thanks for the reply. Here's the result:

0a:03.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02)

Okay, here is a messy and quick how-to, long night and little sleep...
If your problem is like mine, I had to do the following (I have a different computer so yours may vary:

1. connect to router temporarily with RJ45 cable and check for internet connectivity
2. go to Administration and click Hardware Drivers
3. my computer required the broadcom driver, which downloaded and installed fine from the Hardware Drivers utility
4. once activated, disconnect your RJ45 cable and set up your wifi

This is a one-time thing, just to get the right driver on your machine.

Hope it works for you too

Yes, as MyWorld says is the best way.

Once you have wired connection,

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Reboot

System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers

There were two:
Broadcom B43 -> didn't work
Broadcom STA wireless driver -> works!

After reboot, I have wireless working fine and B43 disappeared.

I can't find the system menu anywhere? Using version 1.1. It's not under local settings. Do you maybe have a terminal command for this driver?

Hardware drivers is probably under 'Administration' in the menu. (I don't use jolicloud so am not 100% sure).

For STA driver:-

The STA supports BCM4311, BCM4312, BCM4321 or BCM4322 (some users claim that BCM4328 also works, but it's not official) wireless chips and the alternative way to enable it is installing the bcmwl-kernel-source package (either with Synaptic or running sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source from terminal).

Please read this.. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx
If you don't have an ethernet connection see the section 'STA -No Internet Access'
