Because of a sudden u-turn by the Lions, there is a possibility that JK may be the referee in one of the tests against the Lions!
Alot of people (saffas) won't have a problem with that but when they hear that one of the other tests against the Lions might be officiated by Alan Rolland, then they might have a problem because he is an Irishmen and Ireland form part of the Lions setup.
I don't have a problem with this. Infact, I think its great!! If they can get the best referee in the world to be in charge of the match and he happens to be a South African, Pommy, Scot, Welshmen or Irishmen, I couldn't care less - as long as they get the best man for the job!
Rugby is long gone by the time were officials can still be bias towards a specific side! Yes, sometimes it happens that the referee is a bit more lenient towards one team on the field, but that is NOT bias. I am really looking forward to the S14 when merit refs will be used for the first time in the 140year history. I think it will really work great.
As for the Lions tour, hopefully the IRB do decide that they will be appointing merit referees for these games!
