HI,
I've been looking around for a shopping cart that installs with a CMS like Joomla, have installed quite a few neat ones, but they generally use only Paypal and Googlecheckout as payment options.

Anyone know of a good cart to use that can use SA pay gateways?
I looked at VirtueMart which seems really good, but it's far from simple and a lot of coding is going to be needed to keep things neat and tidy.

Is googlecheckout a viable solution for us here in SA ? I see it does take visa and mastercard, but not sure if the charges make sense?

shot!

Hi, I can only comment on the Google Checkout part of your thread.

Google Checkout is only available to USA or UK citizens/merchants. When you sign up you either accept the USA or the UK agreement. That is the situation at the moment at least. They require that you have a USA or UK (depending on which one you sign up for) SSN, Tax id and bank account.

We were hesitant to sign up for Google Checkout because they've received some criticism for not having a toll free number nor instant chat function. Difficult to contact in other words. But the one time we had a problem they were quick to reply via email.

Ubercart looks like a winner, man I had such a killer template lined up for the Joomla installation, but I don't mind changing that to have a better cart :) I have heard good things about Drupal , and been meaning to try it out.

Paypal is similar to Google Checkout wrt location, except they cover more countries ie Europe, Hong Kong, Canada etc. The other one which looked rather attractive from a South African perspective was Plimus.

However, I cannot comment in detail. You will probably find that in SA we are limited wrt payment gateways and those available are soooooo expensive!

Netcash, although mainly into bulk debit orders, also ventured in credit card processing. Not sure if they still do it. They are Newlands/Claremont (CT) based. And the last SA one I know of is Iveri. Once again, sorry I can only point you to them, we didn't make use of them.

i found virtuemart quite easy. ubercart comes a good second.

I am happy with the Joomla and Virtumart side of things, what payment gateway would you recommend for SA sites?. I will also do my own research, but wondered what you used?.
