Sunninghill residents have taken matters into their own hands to repair dangerous potholes that have become a hazard for motorists.

The initiative, led by the Sunninghill Community Ratepayers Association, saw volunteers and residents band together to fix more than 155 potholes after multiple reports to Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) went unaddressed.

However, JRA’s Khayalethu Gqibitole stated that the agency did not permit any individual or entity to carry out work on road or stormwater infrastructure without proper authorisation.

How dare they deprive the comrades of their tenders!

You can't make up this shyte. A dangerous pothole must be left so that it can be ensured it's repaired safely one day some day.

Ja ne. Fix the potholes asshols. I drive like a rally driver dodging potholes here in the suburbs in PTA.

It’s about liability as well.
If the residents did a kuk job and someone dies, or there s damage caused, then who pays?

Ultimately the JRA, cause they didn't fix it in time anyway, so the person would have died anyway from the unfixed issue, if the kuk job still killed the person.

Reporting this to Batohi so that she can arrest entire sunninhill resident association. Leeuwkop prison is close by so she should consider this easy win. It will be the first successful case for her.

Has there been a case yet? I am just making assumptions myself.

JRA outrage laughable. Trying to throw the book at residents while ignoring their own responsibility.

I would hazard a guess that the ratepayers association actually did a better job than the JRA tenderprenuers would have, if eSchitweni's pothole repair process is anything to go by.

The potholes are repaired for a maximum of 2 weeks before reopening.

This may very well be true, but tyres are expensive.

Well I have bad news for them long term. Once it rained the holes are going to be open again, I'm the meantime it will already start collapsing they just won't notice it, no matter how well they think they did it again. I think they need to watch that YouTube how potholes work. The only way to fix it is to redo the road unfortunately.

This is no excuse for the pathetic municipalities though who eat like pigs and lie like estate agents on rate payers accounts. Pathetic.

100% agreed, but there are ways to make a repair last a hell of a lot longer than what our current tenderpreneurs manage.
