JSE reverses outsourcing move

Another company seems to have found that outsourcing IT completely just doesn't fulfill business needs.
IT has become so much a part of how business is conducted and indeed how successful a business becomes. I think SA companies are only lately starting to make IT part of strategic business decisions and having an IT director on the board helping make those decisions.

...

...and in other news....

... the bonus of being an IT professional:

Asked what kind of candidate the JSE would consider for such a post, he said: “They would have to be extremely competent and have lots of experience.”

While employment equity requirements are always a consideration, it will not be essential, as experience will be worth more to the JSE, Loubser says.

I work with the JSE twits, u won`t believe how many errors they make.
Their projects they`ve been running for the last couple of years are stuffups.
Had to spend quite a few hours of overtime fixing them, nevermind trying to get them to admit mistakes.

So that's why...

Got to the word "Accenture" and immediately felt their pain.

Are we talking the outsourced twits or the actual JSE staff twits here ? :)

Would I be wrong in assuming that business outsource IT simply because they know they will be unable to deliver the solution the time business demands and are really hiring scape goats?

Is this too cynical?

IMHO : most companies doing outsourcing work usually have more than one client to look after - and this can cause problems when two or more clients have huge IT problems all at the same time.

Companies often see IT outsourcing as the "silver bullet" solution to all their IT woes. You won't often see companies with successful IT policies and procedures in place opting for the outsourcing route.

As I see it (in my experience of course) the companies looking for the magic solution are only shooting themselves in the foot. What they need to look at first is how they are doing business. Simplistically, is the way they handle a transaction the best way to do it? (taking IT out of the equation here). Once the business process is working then apply IT to speed things up and make them easier

Making matters worse for the "new" outsourcing company is that they land up having to hire most of the IT staff who are just going to carry on doing things the way they always have.

Not just that - training and all that.

Plus - having an outside IT company doing your IT is an added security risk...

I agree partly with you there, a company with sound ICT management policies would not need an outsourced model.

In the JSE's case they should have never gone the outsource path as IT is one of their CORE business functions. Without it they do not make any money. As the saying goes, "everything CORE to you making money should remain in-house, the rest you can outsource".
