it could also be a goat disguised as a duck

I called up the help desk and asked them if this is something that is in place and they told me noooo its just a speed problem on the network, the dude ( Adrian ) had no idea what the hell he was talking about telling me that it might be a signal problem and a mate of mine in the next room might be able to connect just fine while I am just having bad luck. sounds like a crock of **** to me.

When I asked how it was just a speed problem for the 64k throttles service and not a speed problem for uncapped users he blubbered like a fish out of water and then told me because its shared 64k. he couldnt even tell me whatthe contention ratio was for the shared users.

This has turned into a crock of ****.

"WBS, I speet on joo! ptooey!"

Can ppl help me confirm something about WBS's bandwidth manager ...

It is my impression that the bw mgr can modify your bandwidth rate (i.e. uncapped to capped & visa vera) in session.

For example if you had 5MB of traffic left before your cap, and you downloaded a 10MB file, the first 5MB would come down at full speed, and the last 5MB would come down at ~ 64kbps. No disconnect, no relogin etc.

Can anyone confirm that this is has happened to you?

Hi Roma,
I can concur that the bandwidth manager does kick in the monment you reach your cap, even in mid-download. Has happened to me.

Not A Happy Chappy

Definately it does kick in ... exactly as IC and others explain.
Why it does tho i have no idea, I asked my reseller to ask WBS if I had been flagged as a bad boy, and they replied "no" so - EITHER wbs are lying or their throttling machine needs a new one!!!

My situation is that i have had to restore my connection by purchasing extra 1gb bandwidth on two occasions this month alone because it has been vital to do so.
I am in middle of some contract from school and cannot do job without it.
Tradepage are my reseller, and they dont help either.
I have copies of all email corrspondance and am just waiting to post the whole damn shoot on this forum and ITWEB.
I have had enuff of resellers blaming WBS and WBS hding behind the deskjockeys incompetence.
I have got to the stage of complete beligerence, and imaptience with 4$$h0l3z !!!!!
If it werent for the fact that Telskom dont have ports in my area and Sentech dont have signal, WBS/TRADEPAGE wouldnt see me for dust.
I have phoned, emailed, spoken, had one on ones, with as many people as possble and now i have decided that the only way is to withhold payement, and as i need access, if i dont have 64kb/s i will buy and then refuse to pay.
They can try sue me, for all i care.
Maybe i go down in flames, but i will take as many with me as i can.

LETS GET RETARDED

I guys I've been lurking around for a while now...

I'm also an iburster and for the last 8 months I've never had to pass my cap until this month, I must say I reached my cap on the 8th of Aug and so far I've been throttled to 64k...

My current usage is sitting around 4gigs and I'm still dling anime atm, this is coming down at 8k/s. So yes you can say that I'm pending on the big F you cut off and message about me abusing the the inet.

Last month I have however received a call from some lady telling that I haven't paid my iburst but this was due to the fact that she was incompentent at reading payments and was clearly pointed out her mistake.

Its a farce. I suppose it always has been, we have always hoped they (WBS) would develop some sence of client loyalty, or perhaps even base their despotic decisions on some kind of consumer input or even market needs, obviously we have been mistaken.

Currently I have a 4Mbps unlimited, connection (modem included) for the heavy price of 84 EEK (R42) per month and mobile calls cost me 7c/min. Add that to the fact that cost of living in Estonia is between a quarter to a half of that in SA and I feel that despite of the wonderful people and living in SA, my decision to leave was the correct one for myself. Being shafted by the likes of WBS and their ilk at every turn and in every industry, tech, banking, motor, client services is not my idea of fun, nor is should it be happening, but it is and I don't see it changing soon.

No http access after being throttled?

Any one else have no http access after being throttled this month?
I can ping sites but they refuse to open.....messanger, games, IRC and ftp seems to work fine. Helpdesk asked me to buy more bandwidth....I just laughed at him. Said he would phone me back, but I'm not execting a phonecall. :(

I had no http access at the end of Sept. I was also told to buy more bandwidth - ha, not good enough! i'm paying for the 64kbit as part of the product so I kicked up a bit of a fuss on that specific note. I was "honoured" with a free gig to resolve the issue. Nothing like getting an invoice for something free ;) Needless to say, I was on the phone last week kicking up another fuss to get my money back. On the day I had the no http access issue, I actually asked to operator to send me written confirmation that I wouldn't be billed. I still recall her saying "Done!". SMTP ghost or blatant lie? You decide :D

A side note on the accounts dept. I was sad to hear Cathy Blocks has left WBS - if I ever had any billing problems, she would sort them out for me very quickly.

Guys please send a complaint to ICASA. The more complaints the better ammunition we have against WBS.

WBS sucks

I've been with iBurst since April and have NEVER received ONE info email from them, telling me what's happening, or if there are any changes with the service. Hell, I get more info emails from Hotmail staff!!!

If WBS doesn't want to talk to their customers, it's GAME OVER for them sooner than they think.

Me is also looking at Geldbom ADSL as a replacement for iBurst - never thought I'd EVER say that, but I just did.
