Technical Issue

 Guys...was just on the phone with one of the senior supervisors for iBurst (Phulile Giyane), and he has ASSURED me that there is no such policy in place.

He HAS said that a number of people are getting cut off after exceeding 2 gigs once trottled, but that it is more of a technical issue. They are trying to resolve this issue

He said that in the case of that happening, one should call iBurst immediately, and they would sort the issue out WITHOUT FURTHER CHARGES INVOLVED.

I hope this isn't just BULL ****, and that this REALLY is the case!!!

no, we get cut off as we hit the cap, we dont even get a byte while capped nevermind 2Gbs. WBS' word doesnt mean anything to me, they're said alot of crap before and denied stuff so they can get stuffed.

whether is a policy as I was informed or a funny technical issue, i couldnt care, the results are the same, no internet unless I pay for more bandwidth, honestly, what sort of technical issue cuts someone off as they get capped, thats really convenient seeing as they're the ones getting money if I buy more bandwidth.

who do I call when it happens BTW? I mean you cant be talking about the helpdesk, you call them and you get some moron who tells me its my MTU or spyware, then says, hey i'll give you my special email address only for special people, then I say, what the hell, what am I gonna email you I CANT ACCESS THE NET YOUR KNOB, then he says no seriously just do it, it will be sorted then, then he hangs up I use some other connection to send an email and never get a reply and thats that, they successfully doged doing anywork

I do agree that the guys at helpdesk are a bit lost at times, but i have to say that I haven't had problems contacting them, or receiving callbacks from them. I called the guy this afternoon, and less then 15 minutes later, his supervisor called me back.

...and they still maintain that you are IN NO WAY OBLIGATED TO BUY more bandwidth. I'm on a 3 gig package, and have consistently exceeded my aloted bandwidth every month. The most I've used in 1 month was 5.7 gig, and I still had no problem uploading or downloading. It was just much slower!!!

That btw WAS exactly the same experience i had when i phoned in.
when helpdesk treat you like you some kind of absolute moron and start talking MTU and new.net spyware, I kinda realise that that must be the level of their understanding of computer related problems.

I CRINGE FOR THESE POOR GUYS.........................WBS WAKE UP
have WBS NOT HEARD OF TRAINING?.........
WHY NO POST by whatever means necessary, ie: email,forum,noticeboard..chalkboard,crayons even, to show the users a checklist, what to do if......................
how to escalate a problem..............
when all else fails..........................

WBS PLEASE READ AND WAKE UP !!!!!!

I WISH I LIVED IN GAUTENG.........OMG

whats amazing is that if wbs was my company being dissed left right and center, i would be afraid, very afraid.
Unless of course it was what i wanted, .................makes you think..............................................................................

somebody wake me up when the bathwater is ice cold please

not obligated? well thats easy for you to say, so when I'm sitting here and I finish soem work, I go upload everything and suddenly i pass the cap and get cut off and you say I'm not obligated to pay for more... well what other choice do I have? Should I pospone handing over work for 3 weeks till the new month comes? Should I phone WBS and ask for help or for them to fix the problem (which I did LAST WEEK and its still a problem today so I'd still be waiting)

You only use 5.7GB in a month, that makes you a light user, so yeah, maybe you could wait it out or not feel obligated but my livelyhood depends on having an internet connection, so I can't.

Look I've been on iBurst forever and I've already been defending it so you don't need to come here and try convince me of anything. If you don't have this problem FANTASTIC, but we do, and we don't care if you don't because that doesn't help us. What does help us however is hearing from people with epertise, people with contacts and people with the same problem.

ic please clean up the poll, its confusing,

the poll said:
In July 2005, when capped I can ONLY ACCESS WBS/reseller website(s) e.g. iBurst.co.za, wbs.co.za,...
In July 2005, when capped, speed to non-WBS/reseller sites is EFFECTIVELY 0.0kbits/s

look at that, 2 options for exactly the same thing.
thepoll said:
I use iBurst mostly somewhere else in SA [to connect to the Internet]
iburst isn't offered anywhere else than the places listed

the poll said:
WBS have previously accused me of being an abuser of the iBurst network
WBS previously suspended my account for alleged abuse of the iBurst network
the only people accused of abuse were the ones who were disconnected, so 2 options for the same thing

its a bit of a mess, and also you have non capped users voting, that doesnt help anyone. Can't you remove the "In July 2005 I reached my iBurst cap [i.e. used up packaged/bought bandwidth]" option

ok look I'm saying that 5 people clicked the option that says they can't access sites and 4 saying they get 0.0 kbits on other websites 9which is the EXACT same thing worded differently)

the other point is that because of all the other options people are just using them only to vote, like mr x comes by and reads a question asking if he connects in capetown he just clicks that and presses vote, if you remove those options you get votes about the actual topic and then we can see who has been cut off

Has anyone hit their limit and not been able to get to anything except the wbs site?

Unless I'm missing something the only 2 that bought more bandwidth and did not state that they had slowed right down are Bishop and Gary Waterworth.

I've been taking it easy and will probably only hit my limit sometime next week at the rate I'm going. ;)

Like I said, we can ditch this poll and start a new one - just get concensus from forumites about the polling question and the various options, and keep within the limits that vBulletin imposes, and I will start a new poll for you.

PS: The fact that noone has voted & doesn't even use iBurst anymore, should tip you off to how seriously this poll is regarded...
p.s. every poll this section has every had has been your idea, its like your thing we say x happened and we should do y then you come and say, wait we should geta poll, yes but first vote on whether to have a poll or not.

i gave you the benifit of the doubt but you added a zillion things that dont help us at all, so if you're mentioning you wanna kill it, go ahead

Maybe not any others have hit their limits yet so give it a few days.

Pity that non-ibursters are also taking part though :(

Slim from what I saw only those 2 that I mentioned were not slowed right down when I looked at the poll, at least they never said they were restricted.

All the others that purchased bandwidth stated that they slowed down or could not do anything.

Seems I overlooked rebel.

Out of those that were slowed down all were previously accused of been abusers except for jjtoymachine.

Yea, I havnt got much left either, and I have had no word from TP either, and guess what its friday again................
Just realised something, and that is that the fact that i bought more BW proves nothing, thats why they are not responding to connection problems, coz if they admitted to me being throttles more than 64 they digging a hole for them selves, which they dont wanna do.
I really dont feel like having to fight for something i am supposed to have, its more anoying than anything else, kinda like having to ask someone to bring you a towel when you just stepped out teh shower coz the kids used them all and left em wet.
:p
I doubt tho if the half of 11 or half of 24 (depending which poll) is enough to prove anything more than a damp squib.
The only one that sticks out is the "ISP has failed to provide service"

No legalbeegle is going to see that as anything to go on, coz its still not proof enough for collective action, which leaves it to a one on one thing.
But i tell you that i would be happy to drive a bus over my UTD as a protest, as long as it got all the right media coverage, film and carte blanche etc............seriose.
Then i could get some interviews and then when the media hounds sniff a story we can show them all the items we have collected.
Maybe a front page picture of WBS UTD WITH RED LOGO being crushed by totally fedup user would work.
I would gladly sacrifice my UTD to get SOME CHANGES !

ps: let me know how you get your free BW from them:)

this is whats wrong with ics poll style, ok look at questions 7 and 8, those are the important, everything else is fluff thats confuses the situation, that is basically the same thing, so from what i see 5 users clicked that out of 11 that voted, although i'm not seeing names of users i'm just seeing the overall count, either way its larger than a marginal percentage thus far, even if its us 2 thats 20%, but by the PMs in my inbox its more.
