I run out of my Telkom 220GB+220GB in 14 days with 5 people in the house all using the internet for School/Work/Leisure. I cant get Fibre where I am, so got RAIN 4G Unlimited, but after Activating the sim an hour ago, i get absolute TERRIBLE speeds.

My Telkom connection is light years ahead I have full coverage for RAIN where I am, and my Router ( B315 ) has all Bars to FULL.

I tried the Band 38 hack as mentioned elsewhere on this forum, but then only get 1 or 2 bars.

Is the currently an issue that anyone knows of today, or is it in general just a **** service, and should i rather cancel it, or wait it out for a day or so to see if things improve...

Thanks

Try move router outside with 2600mhz hack, even then B315 performance aint great.

But could be just a congested tower.

I've had mixed results.
I had 3 sims on my name. Where I'm currently staying it's so congested I had to cancel. Throughput was abysmally slow all the time.
The other Sim's location generally gets okay speeds.

The last sim I sent to my mom in JHB, there she gets brilliant speeds but that's only because she's close to a tower and everyone else has fibre

You need to also find the best spot in your house for the Band 38 LTE frequency. Try every single spot until you find the best spot( Most line of site to the tower). Run a Ookla Speedtest and make the rain server a favorite and do speedtests until you find the best spot. Please report back your findings

Windscribe. All servers work with Netflix etc as well now. Works great for me just need to get an Android TV box now for the telly.
I used to be with ExpressVPN, cancelled a while back, but thought i'd give it another go and signed up with them earlier today for a month - made no difference unfortunately. speed is still absolute *&%&*%

So there is over R750 wasted today :-( ( 500 rain + 250 vpn ). I just hope the current issues reported with Rain has something to do with it, else i'll be forced to cancel even before i've started to use it properly.

Yeah luckily Rain is billed pro rata. You can ask @rain_mobile via pm to downgrade you to the R250 uncapped option. Some people get better speeds that way. Then just switch to and fro from rain and telkom between 6-11pm. Also get a refund for that expressvpn sub and just use Windscribe build a plan per location and with unlimited data for only $2
