Hi guys

I am trying to get into a junior software development role. I studied Oracle/SQL, C#.NET, Java and a few other languages. I've tried looking online and asking around but to no avail. Do you have any junior development roles at your respective companies?

TIA

You need to find an agency - look at www.pnet.co.za for some job postings.

You probably dont have any real world experience, dont worry, neither did I when I first started. if any agent tells you it is impossible to find development work without prior experience, tell them they are lying and lazy. It is possible, remember of course you will earn a graduate salary.

Real world experience does help a lot, but it comes with time.

I am registered to that site and receive alerts everyday, but all of them require at least a year's development experience and most of them are for web based development, which is an area I have not studied. My problem is that I have been working in business type roles the last few years, so I rely on my currently salary and it probably be impossible to earn the same salary if I were to land a development role.

You need to state where you life and where you can work!

Cape Town.

Try contacting an agency directly and tell them your situation. Yes, you will experience a drop in salary most likely, but you have no choice if you want to work up the ranks.

Don't worry about jobs that require experience. Developers as scarce and if you present yourself well and let them know you are willing to learn they might just go for it. On the salary issue, well yes thats true. Gotta make hard choices if you want to change.

You're gonna have to start somewhere. If that means a salary cut, then it's a sacrifice you will need to make.
