Junior tennis court at home

So, I am thinking of setting up a junior court at home. Max length is 36 feet which is almost doable. This will serve 2 purposes. Getting rid of lawn to be water-wise and some recreational sport at home till boy grows up.

How would one go about it? I would like to do this DIY way to cut the expense. Our complex gardener would probably get rid of lawn grass easily in a day and not too much cost. I am not sure of the way after that. Busy googling. :)

Meanwhile, has anyone here done it like this at home? Any pointers?

Put up a small structure with table tennis, pool table & darts. You & your kids will still be using it regularly after a year.

A tennis court has a lot of maintenance no matter which way you go.

A small pool, lapa with bar, table tennis, foozball etc will be less work.

 Got TT table folded in the garage but I doubt that sport is appropriate for 4 year old (height to see above table, ball movement, ball size, racket size etc) . Have seen 2.5/3 year old knocking tennis ball around though. :)

Getting rid of the lawn is not waterwise.
I am not sure. Do Tennis courts need regular watering like lawn grass? I meant saving water just to be clear. And assuming you want your lawn grass to be green and not like yellow warbler.

Do tennis court surfaces allow for rain water to be absorbed back into the water table? Thought not...

Yes but presumably you don't need to water a tennis court which is what their concern is. Unlike a garden / grass which would require watering for upkeep. They're trying to avoid using water / reduce their water usage.

Let me make it easy. I have A x B meter of lawn that needs frequent watering. Once I have the tennis court (if), I will not be using that much water. That is what I meant.

Water wise was probably the wrong usage but I didn't google as to the exact correct horticultural definition.

And here I was only planning to get a swingball set for my daughter and I to play with in the garden.
I bet your car costs more than 45K, which is book value of mine. :cautious::cautious: If that is what you meant.

Let the sprog stand on the table?

Although, that suggestion by someone of darts seems a little off now.

I am going to give this a try for my son and then only venture out to some idiotic mission of mine. ;-)

Don't forget to check if you need planning permission. Not sure where you are, but in Cape Town you would definitely need planning permission to setup a structure like this.

Slightly off topic, but in my suburb, a dad put up a cricket net in the local park, he said it made more sense for all the kids to use it for a long time, then just his 2 sons for a few years. He got permission, and just put it up - it is now not just a white elephant but community shared.
