Just had a session with our HR exec and the rest of them. Found out that I'm being retrenched. Not fncking cool. I don't know how to feel atm.

I tell you how you should feel: start looking for work immediately. Don't look back. Don't let yourself get into a slump. If your history is strong you'll find new employment. G/l

How long have you worked at said company, and what qualifications do you have?

Well stop feeling sorry for yourself and think positive.

Also i got some card board boxes if you need to make a home for yourself :D

Naaa just playin, sorry to hear man but just remember life is what you make of it, so get out there and find yourself a better job.

@ Cerebus - That's what I want to start doing, but I don't think it's settled in yet. I feel like I'm dreaming.

@Pitbull - I've been here for just under 3 years. Have completed courses on accelerated management development, call centre management, project management, etc, etc...

Make sure they don't diddle you out of your package either they will try but there are rules they have to stick too but companys try make it sound sweet then you sign and then you screwed.

So your in a call centre? If so, give Quest recruitement agency a call asap.

As for the duration, 3 years = 6 weeks pay above the buy out package if they offer one. But 6 weeks won't last very long.

As everyone above said, get looking for work asap. Quest will be a great start even if it's just for a short period of time to keep the pot cooking while you find a better placement.

You'll be coming into money... you should feel stoked! Well assuming you get a retrenchment package of course! ;)

OK, just trying to look on the bright side. Another bright point is it forces you to get out of your comfort zone and perhaps make a move in a better direction.

What do you do on a daily basis?

Sorry to hear about that!!

Seems to be the norm this week. Our company also made the announcement that just under 50% of staff will be retrenched ... in a company with roughly 110 people

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I'm starting to update my cv right now. According to what they're offering us, we're going to get one months pay (October) and one weeks salary for every year of service.

but does that mean you need to go end of this month? that's not really severance? they need to give you a month's notice (like you have to give them) and then the severance comes on top of that

AFAIK, by LAW if you are dismissed they have to pay you 3 months salary. Don't know if it's the same with retrenchment. I'm no labour pro though

At the moment, I manage our contact centre (end to end), manage support staff and strategies for our Latin American customers, am involved in our transactional business (support) and I also manage the implementation and support for new products. Occasionally, I also get involved in sales.

The law states that they have to negotiate with you for 60 days to come up with that agreement. Or they can pay you the 60 days to speed up the process if after the 60 days you are still not in agreement then the 60 days start again. I have just been through this in July walked in said pay me my 60 days plus a week for every year or we can sit here going in circles. They must also pay you all benfits for that period (medical aid, pension, provident fund, travelling, cell phone allowances etc.) The 60 days is 60 working days not calendar days. I will see if I still have all the stuff on my private laptop that I downloaded when I went through this.
