Yeah, it's ancient news.

Russians: First people in space. First unmanned landing on the moon.
Americans: First people [-]to act this in a studio[/-] on the moon.

LOL, it's odd how the americans landed people on the moon but so many decades later we still stuck on this planet with no base on the moon. It could be a funding issue but considering how far we have come since the 60's it amazes me we would struggle to put people on the moon still.

That (funding) and... why would we want a base on the moon again?
Yes, humans are by nature explorers, but to establish a permanent base there requiring vast sums of money, we would need a reason.
Just look at the cost of sending up a couple of people. Just building a toilet on the moon would be a massive undertaking, let alone a base -- and what would the base be used for again?

Maybe now that we have gotten rid of that old relic of a shuttle, we (US and China ? :)) might be able to start thinking about it..

Well surely experience would be nice, right now we are nowhere close to travelling space, if you look how far we have come it amazes me that a simple moon landing would be difficult. They want to mine asteroids but cannot setup a moonbase. I dunno a moon base would be awesome, it would mean we are going somewhere.

Alf how many times have we been hit? Earth hides the impacts better but i am sure our planet has also taken many hits, if the dinosaur theory is right we got hit hard and we are bound to get hit again.

Well duh. The Autobots were the first.

:D LOL

What puzzles me is how US can lay claim to the moon. Even Richard Branson already bought real estate on the moon. How come they can claim to be the owners. If I build a space ship, eg. Millenium Falcon, and fly there (before anybody else) and put up a house, am I squating??? Or can I claim that piece of land for myself.

because they put their flag on it. since the dawn of time, this is how unclaimed property has been appropriated.
i'm sure if somebody else had the capital and the value of property on the moon offset the r.o.i, someone would be fighting over it.
we are just animals after all.

[-]It is someone in the UK who owns the moon![/-]

Oops, didn't read properly - the guy in the UK got his license to sell moon property from the real owner in Nevada :D

Williams received his license to sell lunar land in the UK from Dennis Hope. In 1980, the Nevada-based entrepreneur claimed ownership of the moon after finding what he calls a loophole in the 1967 United Nations Outer Space Treaty, which forbids countries from owning the moon but, according to Hope, does not forbid individuals from owning it.

Hope, who estimates he has sold over 500 million acres of moon land, said he immediately filed a "declaration of ownership" with the U.N. along with the United States and Russian governments

The Outer Space Treaty represents the basic legal framework of international space law. Among its principles, it bars States Parties to the Treaty from placing nuclear weapons or any other weapons of mass destruction in orbit of Earth, installing them on the Moon or any other celestial body, or to otherwise station them in outer space. It exclusively limits the use of the Moon and other celestial bodies to peaceful purposes and expressly prohibits their use for testing weapons of any kind, conducting military maneuvers, or establishing military bases, installations, and fortifications (Art.IV). However, the Treaty does not prohibit the placement of conventional weapons in orbit. The treaty also states that the exploration of outer space shall be done to benefit all countries and shall be free for exploration and use by all the States.

The treaty explicitly forbids any government from claiming a celestial resource such as the Moon or a planet, claiming that they are the Common heritage of mankind.[2] Art. II of the Treaty states that "outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means". However, the State that launches a space object retains jurisdiction and control over that object.[3] The State is also liable for damages caused by their space object and must avoid contaminating space and celestial bodies.[4]

kinda like Antarctica, can`t own the moon, the Americans only own the flag and whatever else they left up there.

Nobody landed on the moon. it was filmed in the Nevada Desert. I saw shadows in the clip and we all know that shadows cannot happen on the moon. It shines outwards so no shadows can happen.
The US think we all stupid.
