On Top Gear last night (a repeat, I know) they drove one and mentioned it cost VW 5 million pounds to build one, but they sold them for only 850,000 pounds - a huge loss on every car, just to showcase the technology. A "W" 16 cylinder engine. Must be some awesome piece of machinery. Jeremy Clarkson was wetting his pants.

"Powered by an 8.0-litre engine, the 1888kg Veyron has a top speed of 407km/h. At top speed a full fuel tank will be emptied in only 12 minutes. The 16-cylinder engine has four turbochargers and delivers an amazing 1001 horsepower to all four wheels. That's about 736kW @ 6000rpm.

The huge W16 engine belts out 1250Nm @ 2200rpm."
