A friend of mine have a Vodafone K3520-z dongle which works perfectly with a Vodacom simcard, but it does not recognise / pick up the Cell C 4Gs simcard. He did get an sms that the sim is activated. He bought the sim-only 5GB package as he already have the Vodafone dongle. According to the Cell C website, the K3520-z is compatible. Anyone else had this problem?
Now the Cell C shop says that he should buy their dongle at R1300 which is R300 more than he would have paid for the package deal.

Probably your dongle is locked to certain networks only! In my country that is a common practice because of subsidies. Very popular among among network providers. Does your cell C simcard work in a cellC cell phone?

If you are using the Vodafone dash, then no it won't work. You need to use a generic dash for your device.

This does not apply to South Africa, all our modems are unlocked.

I've read somewhere over here that the Vodafone dash should work with other providers. Which generic dash do you suggest?

Ok lemme try that, thanks!

Edit: It doesn't want to install on Windows 7. While installing it looks for one of its own files and then cancels the install.

I use my Vodacom branded K3565-Z on Mtn on Win7 64bit OS in the following way.
Install VMC on PC,
Install MDMA on PC,
Plug in modem, VMC will run, close it,close it also over in right side taskbar(this gets the right drivers to load)
Open MDMA & connect thru that

Cell C settings are just standard (*99# & internet)

Thanks, will try that. Should have tried MDMA in the first place as I use it on my PC as well.

Um that's not always the case! I also connect in Win7 without additional software -- BUT to achieve this I first had to install the actual drivers for the dongle, which meant either using the default Voda software (which then didn't want to work with a non-Voda SIM), or installing the generic software.

I've had the same issue using MDMA; Windows 7 has always asked me first to provide an actual modem driver.

Just an update: we got it working fine with MDMA, with Vodafone (VMC?) dash installed. Thanks for the suggestions.
