well i got home this after noon and i could not connect [nothing unsual] so i try the usual and still no signal from the system .. ask wife to call support [i genrally swear at them] well she could not get it sorted so i gave the usual info tower/freq/.... and they will look into possible tower failure and get back to me ... the orc i spoke to andrew gave me the we dont support linux speach ... and threatening with some rather imaginative punuishment ... i was not expecting a call ...

well suprise supprise kallie called back apparently me and others on this forum dont get handled by the genral crew ... due to sustained abuse ... at this time i was able to verify my username/password not functional ... and my account was made inactive ... whitch fcker on here did that ... and for no reason they could find ...

regardtv you seem to have made an impression on him he asked for my password and very quickly retracted that question when i started my reply and no unpleasemtries were handed out ... he remembers from once before i assume and while he was fixing me a new A/C as there is no reason for this failure ... i got to mention a few names and he certainaly knows you :)

kallie thx for the help things will hopefully improve and you should get the systems needed and im glad the lessons learnt by us abusing you are taking :) and im looking fwd to the day it wont be needed ...

there is a long way to go to get sentech fixed and yes i will need to possibly use a proper broadband service but i hope sentech sort things out before i have to cancel ... but ill still try be involved with ficing the system and may come back ...

Kallie emailed me to request my username and my mobile number... before giving it to her I asked her what she wanted it for.

Still no reply...

While I appreciate the fact that most of the call centre knows my name it is sad that this is the case at all.

Any member in the call centre must dread when I phone ... I'm an arse when I speak to them ... the sad thing is that I worked in an ISP call centre for some time ... I understand what they are going through, but cannot accept inaccuracies from them ...

I truly hope that things improve to the point where I am able to have decent patience and demeanour when chatting to them.

good luck with that regard, as long as they give the k@k service they're giving at the mo', it's going to be REALLY difficult to NOT scream at them.

I always talk to Kallie, 'cos he's the only one that doesn't spin me a whole bunch of cr@p - he's a good bloke. Yes, I just gave one of the Orcs a compliment.

Got the SMC BarricadeG 802.11g wireless access point with some matching network cards.

I'm sure I'll have to get an antenna of some sorts if I want to reach others though, depending on how close regard is.

I'm just concerned about one thing: security. it's not that I don' trust you guys, but how do I make sure that my network stays secure?

yip kai get a good omni external antenna (9db ok for short range 15db+ better choice) set up WEP and or use a firewall and when transfering sensitive data use a secure protocol ...

how much would an omni-directional antenna set me back?

don't know how to do half this stuff, so I'll have to ask you guys when I eventually get everything up and running! :D

Current wireless networks are not any more secure than a (cable)LAN. WEP encryption has been cracked and MAC addresses can be spoofed. but like loosecannon said, just use secure protocols over the insecure network.

you can have a look at jawug's cost page for the cost of an antenna. another good refrence site is sawireless.tripod.com

bljech! 2 grand?! eish. After my spending spree today, there is no chance of that! :)

I got my home theater projector today - something that I've been waiting for for a LONG time! And it's freakin' awesome!

> 1.5m widescreen, crystal clear, high definition digital beauty! hmmmm....

*drool*

only crap thing is that it doesn't help setting it up now, 'cos my TV room is moving in two weeks - so it's kind of a waste... ugh.

I went on a wardrive last night around my area. Found about 25 access points and about 6 were open. 2 have fully open ADSL internet access. So maybe an expensive omni is not a bad idea [:p] - incidentally I found that my PCI card slash AP can go to about 190m with some obstructions in the way.. Which also means *hint hint* you can get *free* but slow internet access at the Virgin Active near me (or pop in to share some files he he)
