Kamala Harris announced as Biden's running mate

Of course, the crime spike had nothing to do with a $1billion cut from police funding. Of course! Police don't fight and deter criminals, after all. That's just propaganda...

The budget cut is for 2021, and the spikes have been reported since at least June. So no, it's unlikely to correlate.

The City Council approved the $88.9 billion 2021 budget late Tuesday night while hundreds of protesters, many of whom have camped outside City Hall for a week, waited to hear the results.

But the trends have accelerated in recent weeks. In June, the number of shootings surged 130 percent compared to last June. And the number of murders has jumped more than 20 percent in the first half of 2020.

Perhaps reallocating the police budget will help.

Biden committed to enlisting a female VP, so that definitely means she's a token since only about 50% of the world's population could have qualified.
So discrimination based on sex is OK. Got it. How about race?

You say discrimination, I say long-overdue representation. And aside from that, Kamala Harris is about as qualified as any living person in the US to be a vice president. She ripped William Barr and Brett Kavanaugh (and Joe Biden) and she will do a number on Mike Pence in October.

Speaking of tokenisation I could also point out that Mike Pence is essentially Trump's evangelical beard.

Ok ok, so as long as we play around with semantics discrimination is fine.
The hypocrisy of the left, everybody.

Speaking of discrimination, seeing that there has never been a woman in the highest or second-highest office in the US - never mind a black woman - I think you being offended that Biden explicitly chose a woman is more than a little churlish. Grow up.

If a dog got into the office on merit, I wouldn't bat an eye. Either you are for discrimination or you are against it. You picked your side, hypocrite.

It is said that if liberals didn't have double standards, they wouldn't have standards at all.

I anticipate you'll be labelled as a sexist troll in short order.

So tell us surface, I'd like to see if you'd go full retard, did Kamala's sex and race not play any part in her selection as VP?
I will be devastated if a dear friend like yours calls me a retard, so you win. Take it easy man. There are honest people on either sides of the divide - an honest person said that.

You cop out and decide not to give an answer. Disappointed you lack the courage to speak your mind.

So now that you've resigned yourself to being a hypocrite, you hope to make yourself feel better by pointing out that others are also doing it?

Nice.

Brenden_E: VPs should be selected meritocratically
Me: What about Mike Pence?
Brenden_E: You're a hypocrite

I see I'm dealing with another lunatic hyperpartisan.

Ever heard of whataboutism? You're a natural.

Whataboutism. It's irrelevant whether Mike Pence was selected on merit or not, Brenden's point doesn't depend upon Pence being selected on merit.

Anyway, lunatic hyperpartisan, sexist troll, potayto potahto.

It's not a whatabout. You're claiming that leftists are the ones who don't support a meritocracy and I'm pointing out that Trump's vp was selected on the basis of tokenism. I don't actually think KH is a token pick btw, she's immensely qualified for the role.

LoL we both picked it up. Granted, it was a textbook example, right out of the Russian archives.

TIL "What about..." Is not a whataboutism.

Whataboutism, also known as whataboutery, is a variant of the tu quoque logical fallacy that attempts to discredit an opponent's position by charging them with hypocrisy without directly refuting or disproving their argument.[1][2][3]

Whataboutism is particularly associated with Soviet and Russian propaganda.[4][5][6] When criticisms were leveled at the Soviet Union during the Cold War, the Soviet response would often be "What about ..." followed by an event in the Western world.[7][8][9] According to Russian writer and political activist Garry Kasparov, it is a word that was coined to describe the frequent use of a rhetorical diversion by Soviet apologists and dictators, who would counter charges of their oppression, "massacres, gulags, and forced deportations" by invoking American slavery, racism, lynchings, etc.[10] Whataboutism has been used by other politicians and countries as well.

Keep spinning!

Of course, it's $1bn less for the next financial year, and that money now goes towards social interventions and youth skills development.

Police don't fight and deter criminals, after all.
You said it, not me. But it's complicated.

In the USA, police have no actual business or capability to prevent or reduce crime. They are not legally obliged to attend to emergency calls, and they are not required to stop a crime in progress (although they are able to).

Even advocates of personal protection two decades ago recognised that a police force is not the most effective or best tool in preventing crime. They are effective in reducing violent crime, but everything else will slip through. This is instead something that the community should take up in order to control disorder in neighbourhoods that become targets of crime due to the present disorder.

Defunding police is a workable policy that should be considered given the decades upon decades of research that shows us that a police force alone can't protect a community.

Hearing complete coherent sentences for many many minutes. Oh, what a change. Can you come back asb?
