Karpowership intent on supplying power to South Africa

Karpowership, the Turkish company seeking to supply 1,220 megawatts of electricity to South Africa, said it doesn’t plan to abandon its work in the country even after setbacks to all three projects.

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment rejected an application to moor a ship-mounted power plant capable of generating about 450 megawatts at the Coega harbour in the Eastern Cape province and Karpowership temporarily withdrew an application for a plant of the same size at Richards Bay on the east coast.

Yeah they can fsck off...

I recon we need all the help we can get. We're not exactly sitting on surplus power. Get the dire situation under control, then we have room to choose better options.

A. Renting stuff that you can't afford is not very sound.
B. Renting something for 20+ years (with nothing to show at the end) that costs double what building a new one would cost is even worse, no matter how you try to justify it.

TLDR: We're not exactly sitting on surplus cash

And killing the sea life around the ships for future generations because the ANC is useless.
No.

Why should be be solving one problem by creating another? A temporary 'fix' will only make these 'leaders' more complacent and feel like they've 'solved' the problem.
Get off your butts and build the taxpayers our power plants, and finish the ones we paid for. We don't need our oceans destroyed and have another cash siphon off our coasts.
These powerships need to be opposed.

also, there is the issue of them becoming a bad habit.

They bring in the ships, load shedding ends and everyone forgets about the underlying problems.
The pesky contracts forcing us to buy the electricity from them means its not viable for other suppliers to enter the market.
We end up just getting used to the extra cost and ignore people complaining about these ships polluting the harbors.

Then when the problems come back they are ready with more ships and longer contracts.

Given the ANC's wonderful track record with projects like this, I have ZERO doubt that there's some corruption firmly embedded in the contracts.

My question relates more to the environmental impact these ships will have on the immediate surroundings? Does anyone have any info regarding how this ship will generate power and how it would pollute the environment?

So you dont want load shedding to end
The longer the loadshedding happens the closer the anc is getting to being replaced. When we have power I switch on everything in my house, Aircons, stove, geyser, pool pump etc. I know what I am doing is God's work and I believe my fellow South Africans need to join me.

Pansy anc, pansy!

Please leave the moffies out of this!
