Karpowership wins major court battle

A key obstacle to an emergency program to supply 2,000 megawatts of power to South Africa’s grid has been removed with the dismissal of a legal challenge to the process by a losing bidder.

DNG Energy Ltd., which was seeking to supply power from gas-fired plants, had its application to halt the process dismissed and was ordered to pay legal costs, according to a judgment distributed by South Africa’s High Court on Sunday.

Would like to read the full judgement on this one, but I generally expected the case to fail anyway... I think the whole thing was on shaky ground to start with.

Of course this is just the High Court, so there are still at least 18 months of appeals etc to be heard before anything can be said to be "won" with any finality.

Neither company met the requirements so it's not surprising they didn't win the case to be replaced.

Well, what so you expect when Karpower and the ANC wrote the requirements.

DNG energy must not have paid sufficient fealty to Old King Coal.

Pffft, based on all the legal shenanigans in this country, a high court judgment means nothing.
