In the same year US$30 will buy you state of the art 56Kbps dialup from Telkom.

Nice article, looks like Telkom's A$$ is on the chopping block as it proves that international traffic is not as expensive as what Telkom says it is.

Telkom is Africa's leading integrated communication company.
Yeah - right. Now we're going to be hearing from them why we cant compare them with kenya.

"We cannot compete with the low prices offered by the new KDN cable as it is built using more modern technology and systems. SAT3 was built using more expensive technologies that require costly maintenance and capital expendiature. Kenya is also 3000kms closer to london and venus is in alignment with neptune and my frog died and i have a mole on my left cheek that aches in rainy weather....aaaagh <explode>" end of press release

comon ppl. surely if that cable goes through for kenya theyll sell us some cheap bandwidth....Hopefully by then service providers will be able to source international bandwidth without going thru telkom....

YTF does branson and his virgin crew do something abt broadband in SA... Broadband is in a far worse state than cellphones...

If he ws smart hed identify the market gap and through his weight around, and convince government to change their policies or he removes all his investments in SA (a bit drastic but something like that)...
I mean he convinced them about MNP so surely he can SCREW telkom over as well.... Hes the only one that has the power to challenge telkom.......
Thatll be the day i stand on my roof and scream F@#$ TELKOM!!! :D

Let me help you out here - http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=...39999,39.659999&spn=88.416991,171.914062&om=1

Now - how do you propose they give us their spare capacity? FedEx? DHL? UPS?

Fedex would be gr8 :D ..
Okay well, im not too clued up about acquiring international bandwidth. It must benefit us somehow? I mean with Eassy and knowing the SA government, itll probably only be rdy in like 2010 (if were lucky). I mean they asking fr more money now etc. etc. etc. So if SAT is as expensive as telkom says (bs), it surely would be cheaper and less hassle to just get a cable from there somehow?
