"Keep left, pass right"

The worst is ....when trucks move over to the right lane and plod along at 50km/h to overtake the truck on the left lane. Caused an accident once in 2010.

Maybe even since then?

Le No Debate, if a faster car approaches and indicates they want to pass, you are obliged to move over when you feel it is safe to do so.
You shouldn't be sitting in the fast lane in the first place.

Freeways because all exits are on the left. Other roads can have turns which go either left or right, so a lot of people may want to get in to the right lane preemptively to avoid getting jammed in the wrong lane when they want to turn.

There are a number of exceptions that I know of (in CT), that can make life interesting:
1. Major intersections where some exits are in the right lane, due to space limitations (flyover ramps instead of cloverleaf).
2. Multi-lane roads where the left lane is a compulsory off-ramp, and the middle lane is for straight ahead.
3. Multi-lane intersections, where the left lane is governed by a flashing green arrow, and if you want to go straight you should not be in that lane while the arrow is green, otherwise the cars that want to turn left will sit behind you (and get very frustrated).

Optimum planning under those conditions can take lots of experience, and not be particularly well signposted.
