I see most of the new Notebooks/Laptops are comming out with the new slot: "express card". Similar to the old PCMICA

So guess what! ..... all dem olde 3G and HSCDPA cards aren't compatible.

Would anyones at MTN know when (Year or Decade) there would be data cards comming out for these notebooks.

Thanks

I've asked this as well a while ago ... still waiting for a response - in the meantime I cannot use the E620 F@stLink MTN card:(

Just how difficult can it be for SP's to approve connectivity hardware in this country when the rest of the world already has access to these?

Customers in SA are treated like mushrooms by local SP's

Oh crikey... typical of the manufacturers.
How about a little backward compatibility from them... why do they have to change this now.
That really sucks

One brand of EDVO express card (Novatel) was released in August in the US ... it will take a while for us to get one.

Yeah - this IMO is a typical manufacturer problem. When will they learn to allow backward compatibility? Include PC card slot as well if you have to, but don't expect users to go cold turkey when the gadgets to fill the slot aren't even around yet.!
Annoying

I have a problem with the PCMCIA data cards I have as well, Just upgraded 2laptops and they now of course only have Express Card option. I was wondering if the MTN guys have a possible solution for me ? I have 2 PCMCIA data cards - can I change, swop, upgrade, buy an adapter for them so I can use in the Express Card slot ?

Thanks !

Acer does both

What nice about the current range of Acer is that they support both. My 4672 has both.

Look for a notebook that support both.

Sorry mate, should have done your homework first.

I've had a quick look to see what I can find, it seems there are a number of ExpressCard to CardBus (32-bit PCMCIA) adapters, which allow you to plug a new card into and old laptop, but couldn't find anything that goes the other way around.

I did find a CardBus to USB adapter though:
http://sewelldirect.com/usb-to-pcmcia-wireless-adapter.asp
Which could be a possible solution for you.

@KrazyKid

Good day,

International manufactures are in the process of making these devices available. PCMICA and USB represent the largest requirements at the moment but we do plan to have these available ASAP

Excuse my scepticism but is "ASAP" soon or is "ASAP" not so soon - I just need to forward plan a bit and find out how long I am going to be offline for.
