Time Frame...

...the contract with Paris-based Alcatel-Lucent would be signed within 14 days and work was expected to start immediately... The high-capacity cable is expected to be finished by mid-2009...
Gives one an idea as to how long it takes... I wonder if the DoC is reading this!

Kenya is going to be a powerhouse (ecomical terms) one of these days.

Our goverment can learn from them.... but wait... then our ministers wouldn't be able to fill their own pockets, and that they can not afford. Screw South Africa... each minister for himself.

(It) won the tender because of the price they quoted and also the schedule.

That is the reason we are behind Kenya. Nowhere does it read based on the BEE status of the company, bribes to Ministers, or majority african ownership.

I got all excited reading the title, I thought it read, "Knysna taps French-American firm to build undersea cable."

I got all excited thinking I was going to have to move down to Knysna and become a beach bum

Is Google's first African office not based in Kenya?

This would be the reason why... thanks DoC for screwing over all these great opportunities.
