Ramaphosa's favourite for Minister of Electricity — report

Head of the Investment and Infrastructure Office in the South African Presidency, Kgosientso Ramokgopa, is tipped to be the President's preferred candidate for Minister of Electricity.

However, City Press reports there are two options available to Ramokgopa — apply for the Eskom CEO position or put his name in the had for Minister of Electricity.

One man is not going fix this. You need a team of experts.

Who labelled him, not Cyril
Besides, he is busy fixing that mess that is debben

That is a tough decision. On the one hand, as Eskom CEO you can dip into an already established corruption network without much effort or risk. On the other hand, being Minister of Electricity means you get access to the big money from the kickbacks of Karpowership and Russian Nuclear Power stations, but the risk of pesky lawsuits delaying the kickback is a real problem.

If I were him, I would go with the CEO position. You are more likely to see immediate returns in your bank account, and being a cursed position means when you ultimately fail at the job, everyone will just nod their head and agree it is an impossible position. You walk away with millions in your Dubai accounts, and could possibly still be hired by the private sector.

As a minister, aside from the risk of not getting your kickbacks, there is no prior legacy to follow, so when you fail miserably, people will blame you directly and you shoot yourself in the foot for any private sector job. But that Karpowership and Nuclear Power money really is tempting.

He is a very capable guy but simply not experienced enough to be the CEO of Eskom, but he would be perfect as a Minister of Electricty.

He seems to be more of a political guy? So he needs to be the Energy Minister.

In my view, the Eskom CEO needs to be fully independent - ideally a corporate man/woman through and through.
