Kimi Raikkonen has signed an "outline agreement" to kick off a second tenure with the McLaren team beginning next season, the Mirror newspaper reported on Sunday.

The British newspaper said the 29-year-old Finn, who raced with the Woking based outfit between 2002 and 2006, must first reach an agreement with Ferrari, with whom he is under contract for one more season.

The Mirror cited "paddock sources" in claiming that Raikkonen is prepared to vacate his contracted Ferrari seat in 2010, but only if the famous Italian outfit pays his salary. The newspaper estimated Raikkonen's 2010 Ferrari contract at nearly US $49m.

The report also said the news ties in with Nico Rosberg's link with Brawn and the Brackley team's burgeoning relationship with Mercedes-Benz.

The German manufacturer Mercedes was said to be pushing for Rosberg to replace Heikki Kovalainen at McLaren, but may now have resolved to push the German driver to Brawn and increase its involvement with the Ross Brawn-led outfit.

These rumours aren't off the mark too often. If McLaren can keep the current progress towards having a decent car next year, I don't know if anyone else should bother showing up on Sundays.

With Renault's race fixing fiasco going on I think this looks more and more likely by the day. Alonso to Ferrari, Kimi to McLaren. Would be sad to see such a talent leaving Ferrari though... but then again, it does set up an awesome 2010 season!!!

For the past few races, the commentary team were confident that the rumour of Alonso going to Ferrari was signed and sealed so it leaves either Massa or Kimi without a seat.

But then again, it is approaching silly season...

They won't get rid of massa, he has been the better driver for sometime now. Kimi looks like he needs to leave, apart from the last few races he has looked like he is enjoying his 30m check a year more than enjoying the driving.

Ferrari have came out and said they are to take a decision with Kimi or Alonso, and they should reveal the number 2 driver for next year soon.

+1 - he gets into a rut far too quickly, why he left McLaren in the first place. Too complacent. As a McLaren supporter, I'm not looking forward to it. I liked Kimi but he seems to get too laid back when it suits him.

The wheels of speculation regarding the futures of Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso continue to spin in Singapore.

Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali, who has Raikkonen under contract for 2010, on Friday admitted that "the situation has changed... in the last couple of days".

At the same time, Alonso revealed that he has made his mind up about his plans for next year, while the Raikkonen camp admitted that contracts can be broken.

Sport Bild now reports that mutual team sponsor Santander, keen to make room at Ferrari for Alonso, has agreed to pay McLaren €25m if it will give Raikkonen a race seat next year.

And in the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Alonso was asked what he thought of Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo's comments about Ferrari hoping to announce its drivers for 2010 "soon".

"He said it is going to be soon but I don't know when," Alonso responded. "I have taken my decision more or less, but there are several options, not just one."
Glad Alonso is moving to Ferrari - they can have him :p

Who else thinks sparks will fly with Kimi + Hamilton and Massa + Alonso?
Sparks as in in house friction...

Good the sport needs and injection of good drivers, those 2 years between hammi and alonso was awesome.

I still think alonso is about the best in f1 followed closely by the ham and and the german wonder kid :D.

Sadly alonso has been stuck with a shyte car for so long and yet he always seems to be in the top 8 :D.

Alonso has been stuck with a primadonna attitude since his wins...
He is going to run out of team mates soon I think... I wonder if he will get on with Massa. massa seems a cool guy so perhaps...

Lol - no according to the log - no use dodging it.
Bottom line, Lewis was a ROOKIE and Alonson failed as his experienced team mate.

You're not looking at the log nana... it's to the left, or did you conveniently ignore that...
2>3 :D

Don't worry, Alonso said he was a consistent driver, at least he'll bring the Ferrari home consistently :p

Well let's wait and hope alonso lands a good car to set the record right.

F1 need a prost senna type thing again :D. Had it for one year but not much since then :D. Alonso and the ham dualing it out in great cars FTW, add in some kimi magic every 5th race and massa pushing the limit should make for a great season.

Hopefully redbull keep it up so vettel can get in on the action as well :D

So Hamilton's 109 was greater than Alonso's 109?:p

2nd, 3rd doesn't matter really because neither was champion in that year. Hamilton was first on the long list of losers:p.
