Now really, when will we stop changing and shoving history in this country...
Oom Paul was also a hero to some ppl, what about them?
If these ppl want their Great GrandPa statue, they can erect it too, but not remove Oom P...
The park is named after him... or next they will want to rename it to Manyeleti national park.

I'm going to start a campaign to erect my Grandpa's statue too, he was a great man...

Why not just erect his statue at another of the Kruger's many gates?

//Edit: I wonder if this is step one in renaming the Kruger National Park?

Gotta love capitalism: mmm, new maps, new globes, a new education.

Why don't we just change the whole world then there wouldn't be any past to be constantly pointing too.

According to Mnisi, the king got the name because there was a shooting star the night he was born at a kraal less than a kilometre from where the Kruger National Park and the Manyeleti Game Reserve are now.

why not set up a statue and make a monument at the exact location of the birthplace - then they would still be honouring their King - and generating jobs - and increasing cultural exchange

Plus the the tourism potential with a story like that.

and was very brave," he said. "That is proven by the fact that he killed the elephant that killed him. They both died at the same spot, and he was carrying only a spear. The elephant crushed him after he had stabbed it, and they died together."

lol, he was really a HERO...

The line between "hero" and just plain dumb must be very fine indeed. Who walks around looking for trouble with a elephant? Daydreaming is fatal after all :D

In all fairness, the authorities did say there has been no request and that the process must comply with the Heritage Act - so I don't see it happening anytime soon - now what must be done is that a Government leader should sit down with the people - shjow them how much it cost them as a tribe to remove and replace the statue - then mention the idea of a monument at the kraal and the money they can make from it - and suddenly - eish that's a good idea, ntate, lets do that

I think it is good for them to honour their previous kings ... as it is a part of our history which has been neglected - but there is no justification in destroying another part of our history in the process

The park seems plenty big enough for more than one statue.

Kruger

...there's enough statues of this man so please let this one go! In this day and age, his statue is politacally incorrect anyway.

King Ma'nyeleti already has one reserve in the named after him - the 22 000 hectare Manyeleti Game Reserve to the west of the Kruger National Park.

...geez cant these people get enough for crying out loud, how greedy can you get? Put up a statue THERE in the park ALREADY named after their freaking king. What do they want , 10 parks all honoring the same person, all with the same name?

The other nations have honoured their respective kings and now we want to honour King Ma'nyeleti.

Again..did they happen to miss the park ALREADY named after this "Hero" ...maybe someone should talk to these tribes and inform them about the park right next to the kruger park all nicely set up to place a statue...

No, he can... Americans spell it that...

Are you by any chance American? Bageloo

You've got it mixed up. colour is the British spelling. Color is the American spelling :)

Read about more differences here.
